                  • Blaming Others / Playing The Blame Game

Blaming others for anything sucks and it's not cool.

                    Tips

                    1. Over communicate
                    2. Document / track / keep record
                    3. Speak with manager directly if you feel comfortable
                    4. If it continues you may need to loop in HR
                    5. Further escalation could be cc'ing your manager's manager
                    6. Take ownership / responsibility where needed
                    7. Propose and implement changes to fix larger / reoccurring issues
                    8. Try not to assume the worst
                    9. Keep it factual
                    10. Schedule regular checkins to ensure alignment
                    11. Ask clarifying questions when needed

                      34. How To Turn Around Low Performance At Work
Low performance at work is no good. It can be an indicator something is wrong. Often we need to make a change or pivot. Either you or your leader could notice or bring up the low performance.
Why you might have low performance:
                        Don't care
                        Personal life impacting work
                        Poor leader / leadership
                        Lack of support
                        Don't have the tools needed
Not aligning to the vision or bigger picture
                        Lack of plan or schedule
                        Poor communication
Not putting in the work / effort
Can't get motivated / lack of energy
Not being challenged enough / not working on the right projects or type of work
Little to no recognition / appreciation
                        Not being seen or heard
                        Doing too much
                        Cluttered physical space
                        Toxic work environment
                        What to do about it:
Ask yourself how you are feeling
                        Understand expectations / goals / KPI's /etc.
                        Create a plan
Assess if you're in the right role / working for right leader / in right organization
Do you need to take time off?
                        Delegate? Rebalance workload?
Ask for what you need to be successful
                        Set clear expectations
Communicate - bordering over communication efforts / progress
                        Track progress
                        Get your voice heard
                        Clean, organized, distraction free workspace
                        Follow through, follow up
                        Understand your impact
Do the things that fill your bucket
                        Ask for continuous feedback

                      35. How To Avoid Burnout

                        Burnout is NOT fun!

Over working yourself to the point where you need to sleep for days is not cool. Being busy is not something you should aspire to. Amazing time management and career alignment should be the goal.

While working too many hours can lead to burnout, it's not the only cause.

                        Causes:

                        1. Too many hours
                        2. Working a job you hate
                        3. Working for a terrible leader
                        4. Not enough rest
                        5. Too much stress
                        6. Lack of support system
                        7. Ethics / morals / values don't align to your organization
                        8. Don't get to make your own choices
                        9. Bored or not challenged enough
                        10. Taking on too much at once
                        11. So with that, what exactly is burnout?

                          Signs of burnout:

                          1. Feeling tired / exhausted
                          2. Not wanting to eat
                          3. Easily getting sick
                          4. Anxiety is heightened
                          5. Having a hard time sleeping
                          6. Difficulty focusing
                          7. Irritability
                          8. Easy to get angry or annoyed
                          9. Feeling sad or depressed
                          10. Being overly negative / can't find the positive
                          11. Losing joy / happiness in things / activities / people you used to find it in
                          12. Withdrawing
                          13. Low performance / productivity
                          14. Becoming obsessive over things / activities
                          15. What to do:

                            1. Take time off if you can
                            2. Re-balance workload
                            3. Talk to your leader - ask for options

                            16. Job Searching and Career Affirmations

List of all affirmations are in the show notes, too many to fit here :)

Why do people like or say or enjoy affirmations?

                              1. Positivity
                              2. Helps give you a mindset shift
                              3. Affirmations are statements or declarations.

                                What is an affirmation?

                                1. Written in present tense
                                2. Read as an "I" statement. Since I am reading affirmations to you, I'll use 'you' instead of 'I'
                                3. Positive. For example: 'money flows easily and freely to me' vs 'I am debt free'. You want to focus on abundance, NOT debt.
                                4. As if it happening or happened already
                                5. List of all affirmations are in the show notes, too many to fit here :)

                                6. What To Do When You Are Constantly Fighting With Your Boss

While this is not a good thing, not all conflict is bad.

Sometimes we can influence real change with conflict!

                                  Ask yourself:

                                  • What are you fighting about?
                                  • Who is leading the direction?
                                  • How are you fighting / disagreeing?
                                  • Is there discussion / debate?
                                  • Ongoing fighting or is it more of a situation specific situation?
                                  • Tips:

                                    1. Document the conversation / disagreement / outcome
                                    2. Try to get to the core of the issue
                                    3. Evaluate whether or not this is the right boss for you
                                    4. Need to bring a 3rd party?
                                    5. Be ok with uncomfortable conversations
                                    6. Find practical resolutions for both of you
                                    7. Be self aware
                                    8. Put yourself and your self care first
                                    9. Apologize if needed
                                    10. Make the agreed upon changes
                                    11. Confirm you're good with the leader once the issue is resolved
                                    12. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                    13. Breaking The Glass Ceiling

                                      What is the glass ceiling?

Typically is referred to as females in the workplace that can only reach a particular point in their career. Recently it has been expanded to include all marginalized groups!

Before we accept a job, think / ask about:

                                      • Who is on the executive leadership team?
                                      • Who are you reporting to? Who are their peers?
                                      • Mentorship program?
                                      • Female development team?
                                      • What sort of career development opportunities can you expect?
                                      • Women at every level of leadership?
                                      • Tips:

                                        1. Work with your leadership team to get in front of opportunities
                                        2. Ask what you need to do in order to make your next move
                                        3. Track progress
                                        4. Hold regular check in meetings
                                        5. Bring others with you
                                        6. Know your worth
                                        7. Don't settle

                                        12. How To Deal With Bullies At Work

People generally are talking bad about others because of THEIR unresolved issues, it's rarely about you!

                                          Bullies in general are terrible.

Work bullies feel worse because we spend so much time at work.

                                          Tips:

                                          1. Ask 'what makes you say that / feel that way / think that way'?
                                          2. Ask if there is anything you can answer for them
                                          3. Call the person out / call them in
                                          4. Why did you do X?
                                          5. When it makes sense, explain your reasons for taking a particular action
                                          6. Put boundaries in place
                                          7. Take note
                                          8. Talk to your leader
                                          9. Consult with HR
                                          10. Seek support, someone you can talk to
                                          11. Track your wins
                                          12. Time for a new role?
                                          13. Self care
                                          14. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
