As a fan of Claude Home and its impeccable design aesthetic, Catt was dying to get to know its founder Maggie Holladay in Part 2 of our series profiling remarkable women from the interior design world. And although we learn about Maggie’s business in this episode, the conversation gets deep and very personal quite quickly.
In a refreshingly real exchange, Maggie opens up about her turbulent childhood growing up mixed-race in an all-white community. She details the direction from her father to always try and “pass as white” as he felt it would position her better for success as she got older.
Struggling with her identity as a young woman would carry over into her adult life as Maggie has faced many mental health challenges and to this day works consistently on feeling good in her skin. We are so grateful Maggie felt she had the space to share so honestly and believe this episode will help others who may face similar obstacles.
