Fermented foods add such a pungent sour bump to mix up the flavor profiles of our meals, but it’s way beyond that. The fermentation process makes nutrients more bio-available for the body to absorb - aiding in digestion. Today, Shira shares 5 fermented foods that you should incorporate in your diet to help your gut.

It’s the new year, and oftentimes our guts can be a little off after the holidays. People tend to take this opportunity to jump right into really restrictive cleanses, which often backfire because there’s no wiggle room. But if you want to support overall health, then focus on supporting your gut. There are a bunch of ways to do this, such as simple changes to our diet (like limiting sugar and alcohol), supporting the good bacteria in our GI tracts, and making it unfavorable for not-so-great bacteria to survive. Today, Shira breaks down gut health 101, and shares practices and supplements we can use to support our guts.

Last summer, a giant billboard in West Los Angeles hilariously read "Hot Girls Have IBS." Our TikTok FYP is flooded with unfortunately accurate portrayals of gut health woes, plus it seems like most of us have our own special blend of dietary needs. Overall health starts in the gut, and even more specifically - the mucosal lining, which is easily irritated. Today, Shira invites us to tune in and listen to our guts by dialing back inflammation when we're feeling off.

Sometimes it can be unsettling to actually get what you want. Achieving a physical goal you've been working toward feels really good, but it can also throw us off a bit because we tend to overestimate how it will impact other areas of our lives. Oftentimes we assume that once we check that box, we'll suddenly have our dream lives, dream relationships, and a whole new outlook, and then we're disappointed when that’s not immediately the reality. Today, Shira encourages us to think about if we're ready to get what we want and to visualize what that might feel like when we get it.

Many of us treat our future selves like total randoms, so we often make health choices in the moment that don’t have the future in mind. Without a clear connection to our healthy thriving future selves, it’s really challenging to be thoughtful in this way. In today's episode, Shira shares research that suggests the more connected we are to ourselves in the future, the less conflicted we feel about showing up for ourselves in ways that help us actually attain and maintain our big-picture goals.

It’s almost the New Year, and we’re starting to think about the future. We talk a lot on this show about how important it is to examine the past, but it’s equally important to envision the futures we want for ourselves, because it effects our decision making. Today, Shira guides the Dear Media Team in thinking about ways we might make shortsighted choices when it comes to health, and how we can make it easier to help our future selves out.
