Welcome to part 3 of our discussion on functional medicine, lab testing, and chronic symptom management from a Whole-Hearted Eating Approach! In this episode we discuss how when you're dealing with chronic symptoms or labs that are out of range, doctors place a huge emphasis on removing everything inflammatory - foods, lifestyle factors, etc. So you do it. And then you think…why aren't I feeling better after removing the food/inflammatory factors?? Why aren't I feeling better after trying to remove as many stressors as possible? Is it my fault because I didn't do it perfectly?? And we talk about what to do about it instead, from our signature Whole-Hearted Eating approach.
Join our community on Patreon to to hear a more personal discussion of our labwork, experience with medical weight stigma, what we decided to do when we didn't receive the lab tests we wanted from our doctors, and what labs to ask your doctor for when you go into your next annual physical!

This is the first of a three part series on the functional medicine pipeline! Today we're talking about how so many people go from severe symptoms, to failing to get enough help with western medicine, to functional medicine (and the many issues we see with this paradigm) and feeling like the symptoms are now their fault. In this series we'll be deep diving into labwork and functional labs, how we use labs in our practices, and where stress comes into the healing conversation (but is largely ignored).

Jenny Weinar joins us again on the podcast today to talk about some exciting breakthrough therapies in the field of mental health with ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. Quick disclaimer: this is NOT meant for everyone, nor are we recommending it without a comprehensive assessment from multiple health professionals, including your doctor, therapist, and a specifically trained therapist for this modality. This is an up and coming area of research and treatment for medication-resistant depression that we've been hearing more about, so we wanted to bring an expert on to ask some questions. On today's episode we go deep into: what exactly is Ketamine therapy, what is it best used for, who is it safe for? What are the counterindications? What's the research saying?

This week's episode is a deep dive with your two favorite people (us!) all about how having an autoimmune disease, food restrictions, or chronic health condition can create a feeling of food scarcity. This feeling can happen when you don't feel like all foods are available/safe; not because you don't have enough food, but because the environment itself isn't safe for your nervous system or your symptoms. If you've ever felt like - every time I'm in the kitchen I feel like I'm walking through a landmine…this episode is for you!
