In this week's Q&A, Tara and Justin discuss the question "What does porn or sexual addiction think, act and talk like?" This question is relevant in that many loved ones of addicted individuals never see the acting out behavior so how are they to know if their loved one is in active addiction or recovery. The  S.A. Tara speaks with Roy Kim, a former pastor and certified sex addiction therapist. 

Having had experience as both a sex addict and a betrayed partner, Roy has a unique perspective on the challenges for both parties. He describes what sexual addiction is, how it can start and the steps needed to begin recovery. Roy also speaks about how sexual addiction affects the betrayed spouse and the difficulty in defining their partner's behavior as an addiction.

Tara and Roy discuss the spiritual aspects of recovery and how addicts can approach prayer. Roy hopes that more churches will become a refuge and spiritual hospital for men and women with addictions and trauma. 

Roy Kim has a private practice in Southern California where his clinical focus is treating sexual addiction and betrayal trauma primarily through group therapy.

About the hosts:

Tara McCausland is the Executive Director of S.A. Lifeline Foundation and holds a B.S. in Family, Consumer, Human Development from Utah State University and a M.A.  in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.  She is a podcaster, speaker, former life coach and job coach and is passionate about helping people become the best version of themselves and create a life they love. As the daughter of a recovering sex addict, Tara understands the deep pain associated with addiction and trauma. But having witnessed her parents and others heal and thrive, she knows that with a committed, willing heart and the right tools, recovery from sexual addiction and betrayal trauma is possible. Tara lives in Southern Utah with her husband, Luke, and their 4 kids. She’s a fan of light jacket weather, white cheddar popcorn, and British period books and films.

Justin B is a sex addict living in the state of Washington, and in the beautiful state of sobriety and recovery for nearly 8 years.  He is a husband of 26 years to his lovely wife, Heather, and father of 4 children.  He is a firm believer in the principles of recovery, including the 12 Steps of Recovery and is a miraculous, one-day-at-a-time, living proof that 'it works when you work it'.  Justin is the founder of Reco12 Recovery Resources and current host of the Reco12 Speaker Meeting Podcast and the producer of the Reco12 Shares Podcast.  He also previously hosted the Journey Through Life Podcast.  Justin's goal in his podcasting work is to seek guidance in order to reflect God's Light and to inspire his guests to reflect Light that will inspire hope, meaning, worth, and growth in the listening audience.
