Hope has been involved in animal protection and environmental activism for 30 years and has published the book The Ultimate Betrayal: Is There Happy Meat? She is the Projects Manager for the national non-profit United Poultry Concerns (UPC) and the host of the Hope for the Animals Podcast - one of my favorites!

They're hosting their 2nd annual online Chicken Webinar Saturday May 29th . Expert speakers will share information about amazingly rich, complex lives of chickens, as well as the health risks of eating poultry and eggs, and the associated environment and pandemic risks. Registration for the Chicken Webinar is free and the videos will be available to watch afterwards at humanehoax.org or upc-online.org. You can find a Facebook Event for the Chicken Webinar here.

They help people choose rewarding, responsible fashion brands that do good, over the ones that don't, and help drive the whole industry to become more sustainable and fair. They help us understand we can all play a part in driving fashion to be more sustainable and ethical - by choosing to wear clothes from ethical labels; and by re-wearing, recycling, swapping and thrifting.

The nonprofit organization PlantPure Communities (PPC) works to build stronger, healthier, and more sustainable communities through research, policy, and program activities. They collaborate with local community organizations to educate people about the health and environmental benefits of a whole food, plant-based (WFPB) diet.
PPC was formed following the release of the 2015 documentary, PlantPure Nation. This film demonstrates how political and economic interests suppressed the message of plant-based nutrition for decades and concludes with a call-to-action for people to form local plant-based support groups called "pods". Plant Pure Communities offers a wealth of resources to support these local groups.
PPC has collaborated with the Square Foot Gardening Foundation to create a Gardening Toolkit for anyone interested in growing their own fruits and vegetables. Learn how to create a Square Foot Garden, start meaningful gardening initiatives in your community, support local farmers, and more.

Tom Ben-Arye explains how the Good Food Institute's new University course is empowering the next generation of alternative protein researchers.
The Good Food Institute is an international nonprofit reimagining meat production in order to make the global food system better for the planet, people, and animals. "Alternative meat proteins" include plant-based meat, cultivated meat, and fermentation. GFI understands that with these alternative proteins we can mitigate the environmental impact of our food system, decrease the risk of zoonotic disease, and ultimately feed more people with fewer resources.

Update from Sandra's Blog:
Update May 2023: Since this blog post, I've come across "vegan" beekeepers and the show Evolving Vegan (Season 1, Episode 6), which have proposed that beekeeping brings no harm to bees and is therefore vegan. I agree that individual beekeeping prevents hives from being formed in inconvenient places and is a better method of helping bees pollinate plants vs. companies that mass produce honey. Regarding whether humans should take the bees' byproduct, one Google search will tell you that honey is the primary source of carbohydrates for bees, and even in excess, is stored to last them through the winter. So while beekeeping might be a vegan hobby, harvesting honey is not vegan and the honey should be left for the bees to use as nature intended.
