Being in a romantic relationship is not straight forward or easy even in the best of situations.  Most relationships will have moments when you ask "Should I stay in my relationship?" Not a simple answer for most of us, even when the relationship looks easy to leave by others in our lives.  This episode is about deeper questions that are around this decision from a spiritual and emotional perspective. The only person who knows what is best for you is you and your Higher Power, however you may need to do some inner work so you can hear your guidance and truth clearly.  No matter where you go...there you are- so it is always best to dig into your Soul Recovery journey so you can find an inner happiness no matter where you are.

As we come to the end of season three,  I wanted to share some of the popular episodes from this year that aired for the Apple Podcast subscribers and Patreon Members.
This episode is from a line in the 3rd step prayer of AA and Al-Anon  "Release me of the bondage of self."  This has been a powerful part of my Soul Recovery journey as I learn that I have a choice in how I see the world around me, what I think about myself, and letting go of what others think about me.  So much of my pain was due to my perception and projection as I interacted with people or situations in my life.  With the deeper connection to my Higher Power I have found an emotional freedom that has changed my life forever.

God,
I offer myself to Thee

Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties,
That victory over them may bear witness

You often hear me say that Soul Recovery is about turning the attention to ourselves. It's that inner part of ourselves that is changing - taking control of the only thing that we have control of which is our thoughts, our emotions, our reactions.  This is an episode about the inner process, about how we can take the deep dive into our own spiritual practice and our own internal healing.  Who do we talk to?  Who do we share it with?  How do we express what's going on with us?  When do we share it with the people in our lives? It's complicated. It has balance. It's not one way for everyone. This is my discussion of how I'm using Soul Recovery to heal and process my emotions and perceptions in healthy ways and be a peace.

In the last episode "I am Married to an Alcoholic" I shared that I had thought my husband was with me on the journey of living an alcohol free life and dedicated to recovery.  He had recently come clean to tell me that he had been continuing to experiment with drinking for the last few years.  What do we do when we are in relationship with an addict? The answers are not easy and are unique for each relationship.  In this episode I sit down with my husband and we talk about this recent situation and what this experiment was for him on his Soul Recovery path- and then how as a couple we are going to move forward as he recommits to recovery and sobriety. 
My top priority continues to be my personal journey of healing and Soul Recovery and the spiritual foundation that I have under me helped to keep me grounded as we worked through this latest hard moment in our marriage.  My choices are not a directive for what other's choices should be- we are each on our own paths and through spiritual strength I can make clear decisions that are best for me at the moment.  I encourage each of you to find the support you need and make the choices that are right for you in your life. We can learn from each other and support each other- but only you know what is right for you that will not betray who you are or keep you from living your best life.

"We don't drink." I told a friend as we planning to meet up with them in Mexico for vacation.
In the first few days my husband shared that for the last few years he has been 'dabbling' with drinking and intended to drink on this vacation. I had thought that we were both sober.  I was so grateful for my own sobriety and my Soul Recovery so that I could process this information clearly and remember that I can not control anyone or any circumstance outside of myself.   Being an addict is not easy, loving an addict is not easy, however, there is hope  in Soul Recovery when we turn the attention to ourselves and follow a spiritual path.

Rich and I sit down in the next episode to process this slip in his recovery and talk through how it has effected our marriage and Soul Recovery journey for each of us.

Prior to Soul Recovery I used to say "If you are okay, then I can be okay."  This is a foundational belief of being a People Pleaser where you put others needs and preferences over your own.  Many of us may not even realize we are doing this, or how it is causing us internal anxiety and pain.  I have been working on this on my Soul Recovery journey and was taken by surprise on my trip to Mexico with my Mom and Husband at how easily I fell back into old patters of feeling I was responsible for their comfort and happiness.  I was so grateful for the chance to see it clearly, to take a deep look at the roots of where this came from in my life and turn the attention to myself by digging even deeper into my Soul Recovery journey of healing.

My 'working' vacation in Mexico in October turned out to be a great opportunity for reflection and to practice my Soul Recovery spiritual tools.  I was immediately  caught off guard by my unrealistic expectations of what I had envisioned when planning and thinking about the vacation. I felt irritated and disappointed in the first days and had an opportunity to dig in and do some Soul Recovery- make a pivot into acceptance and surrender which allowed me to not only accept but enjoy it as it was.

I had asked the Patreon Members for what they wanted to hear more about-  Kellye and Stacey had similar questions about how to stay calm and centered when faced with challenges. "I would love to hear more about  staying calm and turning within, when faced with a challenge. I sometimes get out of control  quickly and start to spiral into panic mode, completely forgetting that I have Higher Power right here to guide me.  It's like I need something to smack me and say 'snap out of it!' This bonus episode is from a series on the steps using Al-Anon literature originally available to the RYS  supporters who are Apple Podcast Subscribers and Patreon Members.  I wanted to share it with everyone on their Soul Recovery journey.  So, each Wednesday for 6 weeks we will go over the Al-Anon steps as they apply to Soul Recovery.

For this episode I am using using Paths to Recovery to wrap up this series with steps 10, 11 and 12.  The last three steps are sometimes called the maintenance steps as they help us to maintain the peace we have found in our lives and continue to grow spiritually. We do this by continuing to take accountability for our attitudes and actions each day and making adjustments when needed to get back to our spiritual path. We take time for prayer and meditation to connect even deeper with our Higher Power allowing us to follow the guidance and live from that Will.  And in the final step we have gratitude for a spiritual awakening and a willingness to share this gift with others, and to live each day from this new spiritual path that has brought us a happy and healthy life.
