Most of us can agree we're no stranger to needing to reign ourselves in when it come to what or how we eat. Having been a personal trainer (nope, not a nutritionist) for a decade I've had hundreds, if not thousands of conversations around food and nutrition, so I thought I'd share 8 ideas or tips worth considering if you're looking to crack the whip on your current nutrition regime and shift some kilos. Not all of them will be suitable or will work for you... Maybe none of them will, but there could be a nugget (metaphorical, of course) that's just what you're looking for.

Knowledge seems to be an ever-evolving landscape. One in which the more I've meandered through it, the more I've realised how much I have yet to grasp. It's as if each answer leads to a multitude of new questions.
Riffing on the topic of knowledge today with Harps, we delved into the concept of truth and the existence of multiple truths (my truth, your truth, and the truth) equally valid, yet inherently subjective. The truth, in its absolute and objective form, seems almost elusive, veiled in the complexity of human perception. Mere fragments of truth constructed through experiences, beliefs and biases.

Meet Carolyn Coughlin, the acclaimed guru of better listening, improved leadership, and navigating the complexities of adult life. As we step into the grown-up world, Carolyn's wisdom becomes invaluable in understanding how meaning-making evolves and shapes our lives. I had the opportunity to sit down with her and ask some pressing questions that have been on my mind.
One of the key points we explored was the notion of authenticity and how leaders should embrace it. But what does authenticity even mean? Are there guidelines for balancing authenticity with vulnerability without oversharing? We also delved into the profound impact of language and the choices we make on our interactions and relationships.
As a founding partner of Cultivating Leadership and Growth Edge Consulting, Carolyn is renowned for teaching leaders how to achieve 'complexity fitness.' But what exactly does that mean, and how can we thrive in the face of complexity?
Carolyn provides valuable insights into what attributes make a good leader and those that should be avoided. Her expertise in adult development—a term that piqued my curiosity—shed light on the transformative journey we undergo as we grow.
With moments to spare, I finally reached my intended topic: how to become a better listener—an area where Carolyn's expertise shines and the reason I sought her guidance in the first place.
Enjoy!

Brandon Griffith not only got a second chance at life, but also a second chance at being a guest on this show... talk about winning! Last time we spoke to Brandon we heard about his 16.5-minute brush with mortality as he lingered in the space between life and death after experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest at home. Thanks to great CPR and access to a defib he's here to tell his story and to make a difference in the world.
In today's episode, we delve into various facets of Brandon's life, both as a police officer before his near-death encounter and the transformation he underwent afterward. We explore how Brandon (and law enforcement in general) navigates and equips themselves to handle high-stress critical incidents better than ever before. Moreover, we discover the purpose Brandon is pursuing with this second chance he's been granted – oh and not to mention the moment he intentionally subjected himself to a taser, just to ensure it wouldn't pose a risk to his life while on duty!

Today, Bobby and I are exploring the concept of the Shadow Self and what we can learn from its manifestations. We'll also delve into the idea of processing triggered emotions in response to various situations and circumstances, discussing how to manage them in the short term and evolve from them in the long term. As an example, I quiz Bobby on dealing with envy – an emotion we usually don't choose to feel or wish to experience – and how to cope with it when it arises.

How often do we silently reprimand ourselves for not shaping up to some elusive ‘standard’ we observe in other people? And what’s the cost of this silent yet equally all-too-loud internal narrative of ours? Maybe it’s time to reflect before we trip ourselves up…

Most of us have been no stranger to tossing and turning our sleepless night away at some point, haven’t we? Well, I sure know I have! Professor Sean Drummond fell into sleep (see what I did there) as an undergraduate when he volunteered as an undergraduate research assistant at the University of Arizona and since joined the Monash School of Psychological Sciences as a Professor of Clinical Neuroscience in Dec 2014. He currently also serves as the Director of the Sleep and Circadian Rhythms Research Theme within the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health.
In this conversation Sean and I discuss some burning sleep questions, such as: Is there a best time to sleep? Are naps good or bad? Can melatonin help specific sleep problems? How do I build sleep pressure? Should I stay in bed if I can’t sleep? How do I create an optimal sleep environment? Should I allocate myself some ‘scheduled worry time’? What is insomnia, and what is it not? Do teenagers have a different sleep schedule? How long after shift work will it take for my sleep to return to normal? What is the relationship between sleep and mental health?
I dare say might just sleep easy after tuning into this episode!

Over the past few years, I've sure have embraced vulnerability, but it hasn't been without its challenges—a continuous work-in-progress. Throughout the journey, a handful of people, Harps being one, have played a pretty significant role in helping me lean into the real-life practice of vulnerability. Because let’s face it, life’s not theory, knowledge or even a podcast.
In this conversation, I wanted to open the door on how Harps has handled vulnerability and perhaps even shame in his own life. Despite experiencing hurts and let-downs, he has managed to strike a delicate balance between strength, independence, vulnerability, and trust. My intention is to gain wisdom and insights that will aid me in embracing trust and connection even more deeply.

What the hell is the red thread, and where am I following it? Following the red thread is a concept that Jem shared with me over this chat about how to find love at work. No, we're not talking about mixing business with pleasure! We're talking about how to find what you love, in what you do for work (or creating it). And following the red thread is the concept of linking the things that light you up in what you do and creating (or evolving) your work or role to incorporate more of that.
Are you ready to shift from a mindset of 'have, do, be' to 'be, do, have' and reap the rewards?

Ever look at a city, suburb or even a workplace and realise that little by little, over time has lead to massive change. Bobby and I talking about the influence of small changes shifting and influencing an environment. What is at the heart of resistance to change, what’s the effect of stress in an environment and how can we understand the role of safely, honesty and trust when it comes to embracing change.
