Der Klimawandel führt zu extremen Wetterperioden, denen unsere Kulturpflanzen schutzlos ausgeliefert sind. An diesen Stress sind sie häufig nicht angepasst. Gene, die für die Stressresistenzen verantwortlich sind, wurden in unserem gemäßigten Klima über Jahrzehnte hinaus vernachlässigt und sind während der Züchtung häufig verloren gegangen.

Im bayerischen Forschungsverbund FOR PLANTA arbeiten fächerübergreifend Natur- und Geisteswissenschaftler der Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, der LMU München, der TU München, der Hochschule für Philosophie München und der Universität Würzburg zusammen. Hierbei wird anhand einer Modellpflanze, dem Ackerschmalwand, die Anpassungsfähigkeit von Pflanzen studiert. Mit modernsten Technologien und Verfahren der molekularen Genom- und Zellforschung sollen neue Mechanismen aufgedeckt werden, die Pflanzen gegen Stress schützen. Langfristiges Ziel ist es einen Beitrag zur Ertragssicherheit unserer Nutzpflanzen zu leisten. Parallel untersuchen geistes- und sozialwissenschaftliche Projekte den Zusammenhang zwischen Nutzen der Grünen Gentechnik und deren gesellschaftlicher Bewertung.

For centuries there have been women writers who have changed the face of literature, but we tend to talk of their lives and work in very certain terms. This series of video-slideshows reveals how writing and reputation are often forged in transition, uncertainty and change. In these 4 films we re-examine the lives, work and influence of: Virginia Woolf, Jean Rhys, Katherine Mansfield and Jeanette Winterson.
