    DEFINITION OF IMPOSTOR SYNDROME
    Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon or fraud syndrome or the imposter experience) is a concept describing high-achieving individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud".

    Feeling like a fraud and like you are going to be “found out”

    Feeling like you don’t belong and never will – that you’re just pretending in life

    Feeling unworthy and less than, like you are faking it at life

    Feeling afraid of being found out to be a fool or to look stupid
    HOW IMPOSTER SYNDROME SUFFOCATES YOU
    It makes you hide.

    It makes you not want to take action at all.

    It causes deep internal anxiety
    IMPOSTOR SYNDROME IS SOMETHING EVERYONE HAS FELT – SO STOP INTERNALIZING IT AND REALIZE THAT IT’S A CHOICE WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IT OR NOT
    “I have written eleven books, but each time I think, ‘uh oh, they’re going to find out now. I’ve run a game on everybody, and they’re going to find me out.’ “ – Maya Angelou

    “Sometimes I wake up in the morning before going off to a shoot, and I think, I can’t do this.  I’m a fraud.” – Kate Winslett

    So stop waiting for permission – life has given you permission because you are alive and because you have your own story. Your story and your willingness to learn and grow qualifies you RIGHT NOW.

    When you see Impostor Syndrome as a friend – as a sign that you’re actually doing something with your life and you are in the ranks of those who pursue greatness – then you will learn to embrace it more openly and ignore it’s whisperings. Instead its whisperings will just be a sign that you are indeed on your way to doing something that matters … that, no matter the internal self-doubt and self-chatter in your mind, you are indeed on the right path.
    7 WAYS TO STOP BELIEVING THE LIES OF IMPOSTOR SYNDROME

    * Give yourself some credit.

    You are smarter than you think.

    You have had a hand in your own success.

    You have more self-efficacy than you think.

    You have the ability to grow and adapt – trust that.

    * Keep your mind focused on contribution and value

    Take action because you are destined to – not because it’s about you, but because it’s about others and helping them.

    Stop worrying about “what people will think of you” – who cares?!

    QUOTES ON THE POWER OF LETTING YOUR VOICE SPEAK UP
    Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes. –Maggie Kuhn

    The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can. –Neil Gaiman

    The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud. –Coco Chanel

    So, open you mouth, lad! For every voice counts! –Dr. Seuss

    Be a voice, not an echo.
    WHY YOUR VOICE MATTERS

    * It is unique.
    * Only you see the world the way you do.
    * God gave you a story, it’s not yours to keep.
    * You might be the voice that needs to speak for those who can’t yet
    * You are alive – your work is not done – your voice is the propeller to your work, your influence, your legacy and your impact.

    For me – one voice can change my day, my week, my month, my year, my future, my world.

    Never underestimate the power of words.
    OVERCOMING THE OBSTACLES THAT KEEP YOUR VOICE FROM RESONATING
    A few of the obstacles that keep people’s voices silenced….

    * Fear of being perceived as a fool or as self-righteous
    * Feelings of being “behind” or unworthy of having anything to give that isn’t already out there
    * False belief that the world has enough influencers and that you have nothing to contribute
    * Overthinking the next-steps and the future
    * Negative self-talk and tapes
    * Pity-party and self-comparison – assuming a fixed mindset
    * Worrying about saying what you have to say “perfectly” instead of just getting it out and there and tweaking the message, letting your voice find its way as you practice putting it out there
    * Self-consumption – not realizing that keeping the beauty of your voice to yourself that you are keeping it from the world
    * Unwillingness to take ownership of the emotional work that is to be done in owning one’s own story and voice
    * A “what’s the point” dialogue of resignation
    * Comparison to anyone else ("Contentment comes when we choose to see the immeasurable, incomparable beauty of each human, including the one in the mirror." -Kay Wills Wyma)

    TAKING THE BELIEF THAT YOUR VOICE MATTERS AND PUTTING IT INTO ACTION

    * Take action before you are ready.
    * Ignore the haters in your mind – expect to feel like an imposter and to question yourself.

    QUESTIONS Q&A PART ONE
    Hi Trish

    I'm a personal trainer also and I would love to hear your tips for being the best trainer you can be and what's the most important thing to focus on when marketing your services? Thanks xx    Lynsey Jordan

    I was wondering if you might consider a putting together a episode on a podcast, of taking care of yourself, when others around you are not.  Meaning- A lot of my time is spent around my family members who don't look after their health and wellbeing at all. (I'm not saying that in a way that makes me better than them at all! )  But when you see the bad effects of their actions and choices, and how it's damaging their health more and more each day, it's hard to just look the other way. I want to be supportive and to help them, not in a overbearing way, but just to help them understand that they can feel so much better than they do now.

    But they don't want to change any of their habits. It's hard to focus and take care of yourself, when those closest to you, (literally,) are taking such poor care of themselves, and their wellbeing. Maybe this is a boundary topic, I don't know. But it's something I would really appreciate your thoughts on.  –Victoria Lewis

    I would love to hear more on how to change toxic thought patterns...it's been a habit all my life (of 24 years) and is especially directed towards negative self-worth and believing a lot of lies...I really try to feed my mind positively (including your super podcast) but are there visual/physical ways that I could use to really help with breaking this habit and training my mind to focus on truth instead. Thanks so much!

    -Marlisa Hostetler

    How do you keep positive thoughts about your post-baby body while healing and haven't been cleared to resume physical activity? I'm finding it extremely difficult to feel confident in summer attire with my post baby pouch and weight.
