Today we’re going to be sharing a recap of our visit to the lavender fields. If you’re thinking of visiting a lavender field this season, this episode is for you!

A few weeks ago, we ventured to Sequim, WA – located about 2 ½-3 hours outside of Seattle in the Olympic Peninsula. We visited lavender fields, a castle Airbnb, and a diner, and we thought it would be fun to share a recap of our weekend trip there.

  • Q2 2021 Recap for Maddy and Emma

We are reflecting on the second quarter of 2021 (April-June) and sharing our highs, lows, life updates, and what we are looking forward to in Q3.

First, we want to start by sharing why we do these quarterly reviews. If you’ve worked in a corporate office before, you may have heard the term Quarterly Business Review (QBR).

As creators making money from our business, it’s important that we treat it like one! If you're unfamiliar with quarterly business reviews (QBRs),  QBR is a quarterly review meeting you hold with your customers.  In a typical quarterly business review presentation, you go through all the progress made in the last 90 days, outlining your plan for the next 90 days.

    One high for Emma's Edition:

Surpassed her Quarterly Revenue Goal by $20,000
Emma was shocked that Q22021 was as busy as it was. Emma came out of taking a full week off at the end of March ready for the second quarter of the year and the brand partnerships came pouring into my inbox.

    One high for Madcrayy:

Contracted over $40k in Paid Brand Collaborations

Coming into this quarter, Maddy's goal was to land $25,000 in paid brand collaborations to contribute towards my yearly stretch goal of $100,000. She is so excited to say that in Q2 she contracted almost half of my yearly goal!

Tune into for the rest of the quarterly update!

  • 5 Easy Summer Props to Pose With

Today we’re sharing 5 easy summer props to pose with! We’re sharing tips on using props you already have around your house and a few inexpensive ways to find props for your next photo shoot.

    Prop #1: Pool floaties

You don’t even need a pool to pose with a pool floatie. You can use pool floaties to pose at lake or even your backyard with a sprinkler. Pool floaties are a great way to add a pop of color. Plus, you can deflate them and they’re easy to pack and store.

One of the best spots to pick up an inexpensive pool floatie is Target. They have pool floaties starting at $4. The Sun Squad brand has stripe donut shaped floaties, pineapple shaped floaties, and unicorn pool floats.

    Prop #2: Lawn games

If you have lawn games at home, you can also use them to set up a summer photo shoot. I used out giant jenga set and our giant outdoor connect 4 for a brand photo shoot last month and the photos turned out so cute!

You can find outdoor lawn games at Target, Amazon, or even at secondhand shops. Here are other lawn games you can use as props for summer photo shoots:

    ·      Ladder ball set

    ·      Giant dice

    ·      Croquet Set

    ·      Bean bag toss or cornhole set

Tune in to listen to the rest of props!

  • A recap of Instagram’s Blog Post: Shedding More Light on How Instagram Works

Are you frustrated about Instagram’s darn algorithm? Well on June 8th 2021, Instagram released a blog post shedding light on how Instagram works.

We’re recapping the blog post + sharing our thoughts and opinions about what influencers and creators can take away from the blog post.

    #1 What is the algorithm?

The first thing Instagram addresses is the misconception of the “Algorithm”. The truth is that Instagram doesn’t have JUST ONE algorithm that oversees what people do and don’t see on the app.

    ·      In 2010: Instagram was a single stream of photos in chronological order

    ·      In 2016: people were missing 70% of all their posts in feed.

    ·      Instagram developed a Feed that ranked posts based on what you care most about.

As influencers, we’ve seen people villainize that darn Instagram algorithm. But if you take the time to understand how the app works, take the time to understand your audience, lay out a clear content strategy and plan for your brand, you honestly don’t need to be hyper focused on the algorithm.

Tune in to listen to the rest of Instagram's updates!

  • Mini-sode: 4 Lessons We’ve Learned As Content Creators

One way we’ve learned to be better content creators is by learning from each other and learning from other content creators. We hope these real-life lessons we’ve learned can help give you insight and a little bit of perspective in your own influencer journey.

Lesson #1: It’s okay to talk about money as content creators and influencers

There’s been more and more discussions about how some influencers are unsure about talking about money and how it breeds the comparison game.

But as women and women of color, it’s been so important in my journey to talk about the business side of being an influencer and to talk about money. It’s totally fine if you want to keep blogging or social media as a hobby, but there are also a good number of creators who want to make this a full-time career.

Tune in to listen to the rest of the lessons!

  • 4 TikTok Tips for Beginners

Today, we’re going to be sharing 4 TikTok Tips for beginners. If you’re looking to get started on TikTok, this podcast episode is for you!

    What is TikTok?

TikTok is a short-form video sharing social media platform.

It’s been around for years and actually launched in 2016 by Beijing-based parent company called Bytedance. In 2017, ByteDance was acquired by Musical.ly, and it took off in Europe and North America. In 2021, the company is projected to hit a billion users.

Tip #1: Get familiar with the app

One of the biggest things when bringing on a new platform is figuring out how the platform works. Before you dive in and start learning trending dances, we recommend getting familiar with the app. The more comfortable you become navigating the app, the easier it will be to start focusing on producing content on the app.

Be aware that there is a learning curve to learning any new platform. At one point, you probably had to figure out how to add hashtags or create Instagram stories on Instagram.

Here are a few major things to familiarize yourself with TikTok:
    The For You Page:

Is usually the first thing you see when you open the app. You’ll see trending videos in your feed, and you’ll see “For You” at the Top of the page.

FYP or For You Page basis its algorithm based on the videos you interact with and the accounts you follow. It also factors in your location and language preferences, plus your niche and the types of content you create.

     The Discover Page:

Is like the Explore Page on Instagram. It’s curated by TikTok’s algorithm which shows trends, trending sounds or music, and trending/popular effects.

Tune in to listen to the rest of the tips!

  • Mini-sode: 3 Ways to Improve Your Pitch

In today’s mini-sode, we’re sharing 3 quick ways to improve your pitches. If you’re pitching brands this summer or for fall partnerships, this podcast episode is for you.

Tip #1: Test out eye-catching subject lines

One thing we’ve learned is to include the name of the brand and your brand name in the email. Additionally, one way to create an eye-catching subject line is to include an action or even a little preview of what you’re pitching.

    ·      Example: Influencer Partner Request: Brand x Emma’s Edition for NYFW2021

    ·      Example: @Madcrayy x Brand Summer 2021: Partnership Inquiry for Holiday 2021
