  • Monday Morning Marketing - ten - 10/30/17
Guess whose back.... back again... just kidding but yeah the Monday Morning Marketing episodes are back! Actually you'll see (or hear) why I they have been missing for a while and I apologize. I ws so anxious to speak to you beautiful people that as I was driving I said to myself "I can't wait until I get home to record!" So I didn't... I recorded on my phone in the car as I was driving... so sorry for the background noise. It's actually not that bad.
Anyways in this episode we talk about Instagram Marketing! I tell you what I am doing wrong, what others I see are doing wrong, and who I believe is killing their Instagram... and yes the people I believe who are killing it are dentists. Actually I speak about one dentist who I interviewed on this podcast... her name is Dr. Yazdan and here is her episode:
#32: What Kind Of Proven Posts Do New Patients Want To See? With Dr. Desiree Yazdan
Also, please use that voicemail button on the right of this page. (if you don't see it then just go to the home page and then you will see it on the right). I want to hear every single one of your wonderful voices and the questions you want to ask! So ask me through voicemail (:
p.s. I know what you are thinking... "OH SNAP! Michael put out 2 episodes on Monday... is it Christmas?!?!?" Nope, I just love talking to y'all that much (; ... plus it makes sense to put out a Monday Morning Marketing episode... some time on Monday (morning time would be best).

  • #81: What your hygienist has to say about you with Sarah Thiel
Episode 81 has arrived! I had the wonderful privilege to interview the amazing Sarah Thiel! Many of you know her as the founder of CE ZOOM. But in this episode we dive into the past... and what frustrations made her create CE ZOOM. We also discuss the importance of keeping your team happy! Does this mean giving your team a raise every six months? Company retreats? More time off? How can you make your team happy and ambitious to help you constantly grow your dental office.
We also discuss the importance of just genuinely being a good person. Sarah Thiel personally knows the doctor whose video is going viral as we speak. The video was about how he helped a woman who was abused in her past relationship, he literally fixed her tooth for free (the tooth was broken because of the abuse). If you haven't seen the video, here it is:
    WATCH VIDEO HERE
Anyways we discuss how something that only took the doctor possibly less than 10 minutes (a restroom break) changed a woman's life and now the dentist is ON THE MAP! Who wouldn't want to go to him after doing this! He has created brand authority! Not only this, but be nice to your staff as well.
Another thing we talked about is... how do you know if your hygienist is really trying for you... or they are just bored and working for the paycheck? Tune in and enjoy!

  • #80: The Inspired Dentist with Dr. Shakila Angadi
Welcome to episode 80 of The Dental Marketer Podcast! In this episode I have the wonderful privilege of speaking with The Inspired Dentist, Dr. Shakila Angadi and we really dive into the topic of Emotional Intelligence and how it plays a vital role in your life and in your dental practice. First we discuss how Dr. Angadi was a struggling dental practice owner who had to hit rock bottom in order to finally turn everything around and start becoming successful. Not only that, but she was also noticing how she was alone, she was so extremely frustrated and stressed out, hiring coaching and consultants constantly and spending money on so many ways to try and build her dental practice and reach to that point of what most of us call success. Did she ever get there?
We also discuss what is success. Is it having a million dollar or more practice, is it only being able to work two days out of the week, is it being the best dental practice in the community... what is the meaning of success to you? Dr. Angadi shares SO much knowledge with us on how we can implement more of our right side of the brain and what I love about this interview is she also breaks down a lot of the reasons why we do what we do due to our EQ. SO much of what we portray to the world, our team, our patients is due to our EQ.
So please bookmark this episode and listen up because this episode is a breath of fresh air! It will really help you to look into what you are doing and analyze your life and dental practice. It will help you see the areas you need to improve in order to become successful and why you should or need to improve in these areas.

    42:15 Closing
    3 Main Ideas
    1. Don't Doubt Yourself
Ashley talked a lot about following your gut, and not doubting yourself. She says to just do it, especially if it's something you've been thinking about doing for a while.
She says that she's the happiest she's ever been in her life and that you should open a practice too if you want.
If you want to build a practice that you know you're going to fall in love with, and know that you're gonna be completely proud of, do it.
    2. Hold Your Head Up and Think Ahead
Ashley mentions that it was six months ago that she sat in her car and announced on a Facebook video to the world about her dream.
She says she was terrified of opening something without knowing if patients are going to come, without seeing that you're being supported, and without seeing what kind of response we had from the community.
But now she's happier than ever and wishes she would have known that it was all going to be just fine six months ago. If I had known six months ago where I would be now, laughing and celebrating and seeing a full schedule and seeing a packed house for the open house, I would say Why are you so scared? Why didn't you do this sooner?'
    3. Jump All In
Ashley says that if you have a business idea that you're in love with, you should jump all in. Even if you have doubts about finances, you should go out today and apply to see if you qualify for a loan.
She comments, Follow your gut. If you know that you keep people well and you're providing an experience they can't necessarily get anywhere else, jump all in. Do it, and you'll have no regrets.
While some people have financial concerns or tight budgets in business, Ashley says that getting a loan will help you to open an excellent practice.
    Resources
Local Med has been Ashley's favorite resource this week. She says it's been helpful to have the online booking service because she doesn't have to be present, answering the phones.

16:52 Ashley gives a shout-out to her team and says they're the best team ever.
17:20 Studio 88 was Ashley's favorite resource this week. What makes them so different?

27:30 Why the thought of the grand opening makes her sad.
28:34 Ashley reveals that she received a letter from a prison inmate.
32:40 How she deals with guys and potential stalkers who are now contacting her because of all the social media attention.
    34:32 Closing.
    3 Main Ideas
    1. Be Unique with Your Website
Ashley loves Studio 88 marketing company because they're making her a fantastic website that stands out from the crowd. They have a unique vibe and great energy, Ashley says.
She notes that most dentist websites look the same and that it's boring. When she found Studio 88, they were down to earth and fun to work with. Plus, they understand her vision and what her practice is all about.
Be sure to make your online presence look different from the rest. A traditional dentistry website will probably look great, but will it catch your audience's eye, and is it memorable?
    2. Have Fun and Learn to Refuel
Ashley sounds relaxed this week and says she's in a better space now. She says she is realizing the things she can control and letting go of the things that she can't. But mostly, she is having fun and taking it all in.
She says she got good advice from Studio 88 while conversing over dinner. They said that learning how to refuel was crucial in business. For her, refueling means shutting down for the evening to spend time with her family.
It's a good idea to refuel each day so that you'll be motivated to work the following morning. If you don't refuel, it's possible that you'll be unproductive the following day, and you could even crash if you never replenish. Aim to refuel each evening with something or someone you love.
    3. Love who you work with
Ashley advises to love who you work with because it makes your life much easier. Ashley spent weeks searching for the right candidates for her team. She wanted people with the right attitude and was careful to avoid people with overly dominant personalities.
Her time and effort paid off, and she loves the people she works with.
It's good to have people that you enjoy being around because you might be spending the next twenty years with them. Have people that you can trust and that blend with your personality and brand.

    3 Main Ideas
    1. Have Integrators in Your Business
Ashley talks about her personality and how she's always thinking about the next big thing with her business and marketing. But running daily operations and following protocols are a pain point for Ashley.
Most entrepreneurs are visionary people, and that makes it difficult to do day-to-day business and get things done. If you are a visionary person, aim to hire integrators who will be excellent at taking care of daily tasks.
    2. Just Say No
Michael and Ashley discuss how hard it is to say no. This week, Ashley noticed that she had a hard time saying no to salespeople that wanted to take up her time. She later realized that by entertaining the salesperson and not telling him to come back later, she was taking time away from her family.
Permitting others to steal your time may mean disappointing the people you care about, or not being able to do what you want to do in life. It's your day and no one else's, so it's up to you to take back your time by just saying no.
    3. Ride the Waves
Ashley admits she was down and stressed out last week, but many people Facebooked her and told her to keep her head up.
She explains, When I say ride the waves', there's definitely going to be highs and lows, and you just have to keep your head up and look at the horizon. Because it does get better.
She is better this week and has reminded herself that she's providing an excellent service and that the practice has gotten great reviews on Google.

    3 Main Ideas
    1. The Double-Edged Sword of Going Public
The past week has left Ashley in tears because she has realized that going public with her initial Facebook Live video has brought a mountain of social pressure to perform. She commented that she felt like the world was watching, and says, I never thought that it was ever going to be like that. I really thought that my first video was just going to be for me mostly, and then maybe some close family members, who paid attention on Facebook.
She continues, And it just skyrocketed. It went viral overnight. It was definitely a blessing I met you, and we've created this amazing platform for anyone who wants to do a start-up. But it's also a double-edged sword because now it's a very public proclamation of this is what I'm going to do and this is what I'm going to achieve, and hopefully, I don't fail publicly.
It's interesting to listen to her discuss the social pressures of being a budding celebrity. It's something many of us think about, but few of us ever experience. Will she rise above the social anxiety of having all eyes on her, or will she buckle under the fear of failing in public?
    2. Hiring the Right People for the Role
Ashley learned her first major lesson in human resources. She said that the person she thought she knew well failed in the front desk position because the woman wasn't experienced. She knew nothing about insurance and quit after the first two days!
It's a tough call. Do you hire people with experience or do you hire people you know and like?
Having a great personality and attitude is helpful for taking good care of customers, but that's not all there is to it. Ashley has now realized the importance of hiring people with experience.
Luckily, a well-experienced person has expressed interest in filling the role. Will she show up and meet all of Ashley's expectations, or will Ashley need to keep looking for a suitable front desk manager?
    3. Not Looking at Money in Business Can Hurt You
Ashley talks about how she never wanted to open the practice for the sake of money, but now realizes she should have looked at the practical aspects of running a business better.
Clients are nearly banging down Ashley's door to get a seat in the brand-new, stylish facility. The problem is, she hasn't finished setting up the insurance system and a way to collect money. Without these things, she won't be able to meet her overhead.
She's even questioning how much time she's spent in marketing, and whether she should have looked at finances and systems instead.
Ashley warns anyone seeking to set up a dental practice to make sure they have systems like insurance set up months in advance of opening the doors. This week's episode is intense as she describes what it feels like to be responsible for several people's income, but with no way to collect money at the register.
Will Ashley be able to accept insurance-carrying patients soon, or will she be forced to use her bank loans to pay her employees?
    Help-A-Dentist
Ashley wants to know about membership services and is asking all listeners to help. What do you use for in-house membership plans? There are many options, but she needs help deciding. Do you do it yourself? Do you auto-debit every month? Do you use Compassionate Finance? Ashley needs help.
