Congratulations, you’ve been accepted into the inaugural class of Therapy for Black Girls University. Whether packing for a new year on campus, thinking through your gap year, enrolling in a community college, or grabbing your stoles for graduation, TBG U is here to help you thrive at this stage of your life and beyond.
Your professors and older mentors have probably nagged you at least once about creating a LinkedIn profile, and while it may be easy to roll your eyes at this request, when utilized correctly, professional platforms like LinkedIn can be your gateway into securing your next internship or job opportunity.
Joining me today to discuss how she’s leveraged online platforms for career success is photographer and full-time student Denise Stephanie Hewitt. Since her debut magazine cover for Marie Claire at 17, Denise’s work has graced Vogue, Hypebae, V Magazine and more. Denise was dubbed “The NYU Student Ditching Class to Shoot the Met Gala” by Cultured Magazine.
In our discussion today, Denise and I explore what things should and should NOT be on your LinkedIn, how to strike a balance between personal identity and professionalism, and advice for impressing your employers in an internship.

Have you ever dreamed of a meaningful life abroad, where your days are spent basking in local natural wonders and surrounded by new language, food, and culture? A kind of life that swaps your career-driven lifestyle for a life-centric existence? While it may sound like a whimsical fantasy, it is indeed possible to plan a life you love in another country.
Proof of that are today’s guests, Roshida Dowe and Stephanie Perry. Both women are passionate proponents of career breaks, sabbaticals, and grown-up gap years. In 2020, they founded the ExodUS summit, an organization that shows Black women ways to plan their exodus, all while fostering community. Since the creation of ExodUS Summit, hundreds of their members have taken a career break, moved abroad or begun living nomadically. During our conversation , Roshida & Stephanie answer all the questions you might have around financing your move abroad, pouring into the local community as a foreigner, and announcing your sabbatical to your employers and family.

Earlier this week, we shed some light on the experience of dating as a transgender woman, and today we want to delve a little bit more into that conversation, this time from the lens of certified sex therapist Tia Evans. Tia has a private practice in which she holds space for people from all cultures and backgrounds. She holds a Master of Social Work from Fayetteville State University, a Master of Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of North Carolina.
During our conversation, we explored ways for a transgender person to identify signs of safety in a potential friend or partner, how to establish boundaries around intimacy with a new partner, and how cisgender individuals can best support their transgender partners.

We all deserve to find and have love, but this process can look and feel a little different when you’re navigating the dating scene as a transgender woman. To explore all of the nuances that come with dating as a transgender person, I’m joined by award-winning journalist Daric L. Cottingham. Daric is a proud Southern Black trans woman based in Los Angeles, whose career portfolio includes the LA Times, Harper's Bazaar, ESSENCE, and The Washington Post.
During our conversation, Daric and I discussed some of her experiences navigating dating as a trans woman, including discerning between genuine interest and fetishization, deciding which dating app is right for you, and choosing how to maintain safety when disclosing your identity to a new partner.
