We just wrapped-up our big IMPACT SUMMIT live-event and it was epic. We had 22-presenters and 12-talks. The connection, networking, workouts, socials, and of course presentations were world-class. Kelli Watson, the Director of my Coaching Programs, MC’d the event and she was awesome. One of the things Kelli did was interview me for one of the talks. And dare I say it was one of the most candid, real, and deepest interviews I’ve ever done. Not necessarily because of what I said…but because of what she asked and got out of me. WOW.

Today, I share part of that interview with you on the IMPACT SHOW podcast. I think you will hear and experience the heart, soul, emotion, and energy that was in the room. Someone recently asked me how I got TRUE STRENGTH written, published, printed, and out to the public in 6-months from start to finish. The answer is easy. A strong mission & vision, tons of hard work…and a man named Clay Manley. Who is Clay Manley? Good question.

Clay Manley is my co-author of TRUE STRENGTH and an absolute God-send. I’ve known and worked with him for a long time but never in this capacity or with this intensity. From the start of the creation of the TRUE STRENGTH in mid-December 2023, to writing it in Q1 & Q2 of 2024, to launching it on June 18th, 2024…it has been one heckuva process and story. Clay, as a professional copywriter/book-author was FULL-TIME on this project and we spent a TON of time an energy on it. 

As a matter of fact, that’s what today’s episode is all about. I want to share the “behind-the-scenes” process of writing the book and go deep on what it REALLY took to get the book out…and how and why it got done so quickly. I also want to reveal more about my co-author Clay Manley and why he was the right guy for this project.

Buckle-up boys & girls…it’s about to get real. My TRUE STRENGTH book comes out this week (Tuesday) and today we have my lovely bride Melanie in the house to discuss a ton of “behind-the-scenes” content with you on the book. It’s always special to have her in the “podcast house.” On today’s episode, she interviews me on some of the toughest of times and we discuss my answers. Get ready to dive in…

 Of course we are going to talk about what’s inside the book and what transpired during the toughest 3.5 year stretch of my life. TRUE STRENGTH is a book that is designed to help you thrive in the face of any adversity (burnout, transition, crisis, change, soul searching, a split, an injury, a diagnosis, a fork in the road, a rut--you name it). In the book, I share my deep personal journey of transformation and resilience over the past 3.5 years (2020-2023) during the pandemic while simultaneously overcoming excruciating physical back pain, mental anguish and depression, in hopes of serving as a beacon of hope for anyone navigating life’s darkest valleys. I also candidly share how I found my purpose in pain, faith in failure, and ultimately - growth, all while facing these gut-wrenching challenges.

Today, I get to talk about some of these with the person who was by-my-side the entire time, my wife Melanie. She has seen me at my best. She has now seen me at my worst. Today, she interviews me about TRUE STRENGTH.

2. TRUE STRENGTH. The book comes out June 18th. It’s deep. It’s scary stuff to share. It’s a crazy story. How are you feeling?

5. The pandemic. Fitness Quest 10 closes down. Death-threats when GET YOUR MIND RIGHT came out. The gym being closed. 2nd knee replacement. Selling a big portion of the business. Then the back. The back. UGHHH. That danged back in 2021 & 2022. WOW. And then all the brain fog. A 3rd knee surgery. And then the sleep apnea diagnosis. ALL of it. ALL of that in 3.5 years. That’s A LOT. How did you get through it?

6. Please share 2 or 3 of your hardest personal struggles and battles during your darkest hours.

7. Tell me the truth. Were you ever scared during this time? When?

8. What were some of your top “negative” emotions?

9. Depression. Do you feel you were ever depressed?

10. What helped you during the dark days to help YOU get through?

11. There were 2 really Low, Low, dark MOMENTS for me in all this. Talk about these….

• One was the doctor telling you that you needed a 14-hour back fusion surgery. Talk      about that.
• The other was the moment in Mexico. Talk about that…

1. Dr. Amen. I was convinced we needed to see him. You were jacked-up. You denied a lot of it. I made the call to his offices to get you to see him because YOU would not. Can you please explain WHY we did not go see him… 

2. You were diagnosed with Sleep apnea in 2023. Why was that important? Talk about that….

3. Out of this entire process of 3.5 years…

• What was the HARDEST or WORST part…
• What was the BEST part….

1. What did you learn during this entire 3.5 year period? What lessons did you glean?

2. What role did faith play in ALL of it?

3. What are you MOST EXCITED for these days now that you are through all this…

You talk about icons and heroes! I recently had the incredible opportunity to go to Elaine LaLanne’s home (for a 2nd time!) in Central CA. Elaine is the 98-year old wife of the late Jack LaLanne, who serves as the iconic godfather of the fitness craze starting in the 1940’s. Literally. There is a movie coming out on Jack LaLanne’s life in 2025 (played by Mark Wahlberg) and it truly is a treat to have Elaine come back on the IMPACT SHOW for a repeat performance and talk about some of the amazing and heroic things in Jack’s life. You talk about legacy…you must listen to this one…

My friends, it’s a special day. I’ve had it circled on the calendar for several months now. Back in July/August 2023, I had a “Reinvention Series” podcast series where I shared my story of back-pain and many of the trials and challenges I had overall a 3.5 year period. Well, welcome to my new series starting today called “THE ANNOUNCEMENT.”

Little did I know that this 3.5 year struggle through the pandemic, surgeries, back-pain, incredible stress, the sale of a portion of my business, and multiple setbacks would lead me to my next step… and it’s a BIG ONE…the start of a new fitness & coaching franchise. Yep. IMPACT-X Performance is a new franchise concept that I just launched that combines Fitness, Recovery, Life-Coaching, and Faith. Read that again. 

In Part 1 of today’s ANNOUNCEMENT SERIES, here is what I discuss…

• 3.5 years of adversity, trial, tribulations, and severe challenge have lead to this moment. 

• What is the ANNOUNCEMENT?

• My mission & vision of IMPACT-X Performance and WHY I’m so fired-up.

• Fitness. What makes it different?

• Recovery. Why put a dedicated “Recovery” area in IMPACT-X Performance (IXP) and what specifically is in it?

• Life-Coaching. We will call it “SUCCESS COACHING.” But in September, I started the TD IMPACT Life-Coaching Certification. I didn’t even know when it started that all this would happen. It really picked-up steam in October 2023. But the life-coaching is something ALL clients/members will have access to.

• FAITH. Whaaatt? Yep. Why I’m putting faith into one of our 4 core pillars. How am I going to fold-it into the offerings? Do you have to be of “faith” to train there or even have a location?

• My “cradle-to-grave” concept to help people go from college or certification to IMPACT-MAKER!

• Final Thoughts. Be a LIGHTHOUSE!!

I am so excited. I know that everything happens for a reason. And the pain, challenges, and setbacks that I faced over the a 3.5 year period have all lead to this moment. Buckle-up and today kicks off a several-week series of me going DEEP on all things “WHAT’s NEXT?”
