Do you feel caught in a Trauma Response? Anna Hindell, a NY based psychotherapist and Iyengar Yoga Instructor, jouns me to discuss the turbulent waters of trauma, especially after emotional and narcissistic abuse. We unravel the complex web of our body's fight-or-flight response to trauma and discuss how engaging in therapy and mindful practices like meditation and yoga can rewire our responses. With Anna's expertise, we unearth how consciously reconnecting with ourselves can lay the groundwork for recovery.
We also break down the rumination cycle and share strategies to escape it. Anna highlights the value of building trust in therapeutic relationships, and how developing an awareness of our body's signals can act as a grounding technique when trying to separate from toxic situations.

How do you begin to heal from a Trauma Bond? A 10 minute podcast will not fully answer that question, but it's a start.
Recently, I posted a definition of Trauma Bonding on my Instagram: trauma bonding is a misplaced loyalty where a victim is emotionally bonded with their abuser and finds themselves unable to leave an unhealthy relationship. The victim remains loyal to someone who has betrayed them time and time again.
I had a few people comment on that post asking --- so what's the next step? I was once looking for this answer, so I wanted to take some time to talk about what it takes to begin to heal through a trauma bond.

Tori Benitez of Onyx Arrow Consulting joins me to discuss the realities of the Family Court system and the importance of having a strategy when divorcing a Narcissist. In this episode, Tori and I break down the complexities of the Family Court system and Co-Parenting with a Narcissist.
According to Tori, family Court is like one big game of chess where children are seen as posessions. This is exactly how Judges, and other court professionals, and your abusive ex, sees them. To play the sick game of “winning” you have to not be distracted by how many little pieces your ex “wins” along the way.
Tori is a Divorce Coach and helps empower DV victims by using strategies within the Family Court system.

"How Can I Get Him to Understand Me?" This question came from somebody who emailed me and said: "How do I get them to understand me? Apparently it's rude to have boundaries or just say no."
I hear this question all the time and decided to take this episode to answer the question.
I would love to hear what you think: [email protected]

I went for Narcissists and assholes because it was more familiar to feel *not good enough* than to feel valued. That was my version of safe. That was what I knew love to be. I pushed away every nice guy that came my way and prioritized going back to hurtful relationships with men who never valued me for me (they valued me so long as I fit in the box they wanted me to fit in). This podcast unpacks my story. I know you may see yourself in it.

Kerry Kerr McAvoy returns to talk to us about her book, Love You More, and her journey leaving an abusive relationship with a Narcissistic Sociopath.
When Kerry met her ex, he was everything she wanted in a partner. Yet months after the wedding, she woke up to an unknown woman’s text: “I guess the joke is not just on me but on you too. I’ve been dating your husband.”
Shocked, trapped, and still in love, she didn’t leave. For the years following, Kerry's life turned into a living hell as she tried to save the relationship and understand how someone could act the way he was.
On this podcast, Kerry and I take a deep dive into her book, Love You More, and how she survived emotional abuse, financial abuse and sexual abuse.

You know something is wrong. You just can’t always explain what it is.
Why do you keep apologizing when you didn’t do anything wrong? Why can one nice interaction make you question…
You Are Not Crazy is a podcast about making sense of the relationship experiences that don’t make sense.
I’m Jessica Knight, an emotional abuse coach and survivor. I take the confusing, contradictory, often ordinary-looking moments inside emotional abuse, coercive control, trauma bonds, narcissistic relationships, and high-conflict separation and slow them down so we can understand what is actually happening.
We look beyond labels and individual incidents to the patterns underneath them: what a behavior does, what it gets you to do in response, what happens when you resist it, and what you eventually learn to believe about yourself.
Because emotional abuse doesn’t only hurt. It can change the way you communicate, make decisions, respond to conflict, interpret other people’s behavior, and trust your own perception.
Here, we talk about gaslighting, manipulation, trauma bonding, intermittent reinforcement, coercive control, high-conflict divorce, post-separation abuse, difficult co-parenting dynamics, and the process of rebuilding self-trust after a relationship that taught you to doubt yourself.
But this isn’t a podcast about diagnosing every difficult person or telling you that every conflict is abuse. It’s about understanding the pattern.
What happened? What did it make you do? Why did your response make sense at the time? And what changes once you can finally see the mechanism underneath it?
You are not crazy. There is an explanation.
Let’s find it.
