Recently, I had the privilege of participating in an incredibly informative training with the Soul of Yoga for my Yoga Therapist Certification. This training taught us all about brain development and regulating our nervous system through yoga. Part of the training was led by Yoga Therapist, Shawnee Thornton Hardy. Shawnee is the author of Yoga Therapy for Children and Teens with Complex Needs and the founder of Asanas for Autism and Special Needs. Throughout this training, I learned SO much about the autism spectrum and sensory processing challenges. In this episode, I share with you the challenges these children and adults may have with their ability to navigate the world with ease and comfort. I also provide ways to start feeling embodied and safe again through yoga practices such as breathwork, meditation, visualization, and asanas.
I hope that this episode opens all of our eyes and brings more awareness to what all children need from their caregivers to co-regulate and how we all have the ability to self-regulate and heal ourselves and our nervous systems through yoga. We discussed the Cycle Syncing Method and hormone health including the difference between men and women's hormones and how the nervous system, metabolism, insulin, energy and stress are all related and integrated. As a pain management specialist, we also talked about non-invasive methods of relieving pain rather than writing more prescriptions and covering symptoms with bandaids.

One thing that I admire about the Yuma community is the fitness community. The trainers, coaches, teachers, local gyms and studios here all care for not just the physical well-being of their clients, but them as a whole. I was lucky enough to start working with Adly Juarez last year as my personal trainer at B1 Elite Fitness and she helped me tremendously with regaining strength in my body to ease my chronic knee pain. In today’s episode, we put the WORK in BREATH WORK! Mindfulness practices like meditation, yoga and breath work help to cultivate a focused and non-judgemental awareness of the present moment, noticing your thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations. We tend to live in the present moment while also being stuck in the past or thinking about the future. It’s natural for our mind to escape the present moment or wonder when we practice mindfulness. The goal is not to shut off thinking, rather to strengthen our muscle of mindfulness and gently bring ourselves back to the present moment. Try out these 5 practices and let me know what you think!

In Yuma, AZ there's a hidden gem in downtown called Studio Y. This is where I took my first studio yoga class and where I met my friend, Alexis Price. Alexis is a 500 hour certified yoga teacher working on her 1,000 hour certification in trauma informed yoga. Teachers like her and Adriene Mishler (The OG Yoga with Adriene) are who have inspired me to get my 200 hour teacher training certification and begin teaching
I'm excited to teach along side Alexis and all the other amazing instructors at Studio Y starting this month with my first hot yoga class on Tue Aug 15th. In this episode, I share the strong connection between our minds and the suffering we experience. Oftentimes, it's ourselves and our own self-limiting beliefs that create and cause blockages, manifesting as dis-ease, both physical AND mental discomforts in our lives.
This episode reveals many specific methods and practices to clear self-limiting beliefs and clear energetic blockages to allow abundance to flow. Harnessing the power of our body and breath, we can cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves and our unlocked potential. Repeating mantras, enhancing concentration, flow activities, meditation and journaling also provide a pathway to releasing emotional baggage and negative thought patterns.
The most important thing to remember is to show yourself compassion and kindness to strengthen your muscle of mindfulness and gently release attachments.
