Today Bobby and I are riffing on the nuances of knowledge. Some ideas around what we think we know vs what we actually know. And what even is knowledge? In a world where science is flawed, everyone is seeing the world through their subjective experiences and tainted by their confirmation bias, perhaps it's not so simple to assume what's 'right' or what's good information.
I loved Bobby's idea of being attached to staying in the question and what a contrast it is to the 'answer-seeking' norm that is our world today.

Have you ever left something unsaid and kind of wish you'd just said it? After a chat with my latest podcasting bestie Al Viney on a recent episode (dropping soon) I got to thinking and wondering how many lives were changed through the words of a stranger (or a friend) who just said something seemingly small, but which meant the world to the recipient of the words. Al Viney was one such person, and a seemingly casual, curious question quite literally ignited the fire in Al and offered up Australia a record-breaking athlete.
Your words might be the only thing needed to unlock the next Olympic athlete... go on, say it.

Michael Donehue shared his story of mental health and suicide with us back in episode 331. He's a hell of a bloke and a great communicator in this space. We're not going over old ground in this chat today, but I've invited him back on for a casual banter about all things head talk. Michael is a mental health first aider and travels Australia teaching, training and opening up the mental health conversation and I was interested in digging beneath the surface and discussing the reality of 'being well' as a bloke who openly and honestly shares his journey and fronts up to fly the mental health flag amidst the natural ups and downs we all have in life.
We talk about sitting with ourselves (and/or our peers) and navigating the troughs and Michael shares some of his professional tips on how to approach a topic that the majority of us feel completely out of our depth in approaching.
Top bloke, top chat... Check out his Journey Apparel attire and rep the brand!

Sometimes it's hard to write the synopsis of a conversation that has several moving parts to it... I could tell you Rob Marshall is an astute bookkeeper who's thrives on a passion for what lives beneath the surface of our bean-counting bookkeeper friends, and that would be true. But it wouldn't tell you of the challenges Rob faced losing millions of dollars in an ill-fated emu farming venture, or the devastating loss of his family property as it burned to the ground. It wouldn't convey the profound heartache and grief he endured as he and his wife simultaneously welcomed and bid farewell to their beloved son, who tragically never took a breath or heard their words of love. And it wouldn't share the astounding moment Rob survived a 'widow-maker' heart attack... As you might have guessed from the name, the prognosis of this cardiac event isn't typically a great outcome.
So, I guess I'm at a loss on what to tell you... I'll just invite you to click play and listen in.

Gary Todd, a best-selling author and fellow boxing enthusiast, has not only crossed paths with many of the biggest names in my favorite sport worldwide but is also an everyday hero in my eyes. His story serves as evidence that the underdog can triumph and that we can rise above our circumstances when we have someone supportive in our lives, which, in Gary's case, was his mother, Annie.
Gary's latest book, "Annie's Boy," is a beautiful and honest memoir that pays tribute to his mother's love, unwavering strength and stoicism in the face of the harshest environments and challenging circumstances that were commonplace in the Dundee, Scotland schemes during the 1970s and 1980s. Despite being raised amidst fear, struggle, and violence, Gary Todd stands here today, sharing a truly remarkable story worth hearing.

The title of this episode is one of the philosophies I've developed which I increasingly find myself sharing in the context of business and life. I shared it with Bobby today and much to my delight he found it to be a useful insight (you can imagine how chuffed I felt). Our conversation revolved around human thinking and behaviour and how we tend to process the world an information around us. We unpacked our personal processes around learning and onboarding information and how it differs not only from person to person but also circumstantially and situationally. For example, I'm an audiobook kind of girl when it comes to learning and a physical book kind of girl when it comes to non-fiction or downtime reading. Come listen in (because there's no book you can read this information in) #SeeWhatIDidThere

Here we are, embarking on the journey of 'self-improvement' or perhaps 'healing', or maybe for you it's 'high performance'. However the path isn't a straight line and growth doesn't always feel like we're growing. With our eye-on-the-prize attitude and instant gratification culture it's mighty easy to feel stuck 1.3 seconds after unveiling a new level of self-awareness or unraveling a hidden trauma or personal challenge. Then what?
I know I felt like that... 'Ok, I've learned XYZ about me, now what? How do I change, improve or overcome the hurdle?'
This is an episode on that... Now what?

Well, here's some food for thought! Professor Julia Rucklidge joins me today to talk about the profound effect that nutrition has on our mental health. I mean we kind of already know this, don't we? But do we really? Sometimes sitting in conversations like this one is just the reminder we need when it comes to remaining informed and in check around the basic things that hold more than a basic level of accountability when it comes to our mental health.
Amidst a world of extreme fast-paced busy-ness, high stress, and the ever-evolving technological landscape that's moving the needle on connection and nourishment (both social and nutritional) I found this a great conversation and a great reason to grab a handful of spinach to snack on!

In a world increasingly driven by and perhaps somewhat obsessed with self-improvement, it pays to acknowledge that some days we might just feel like sh^t... and that's OK! Not every day will be 10 out of 10 and let's be honest, if it was then even our 10 out of 10 would feel much like monotony.
Harps and I riff about optimal and non-optimal behaviours and how these can ebb and flow between circumstances and between different people. We unpack the idea of moderation vs abstinence and how to manage our relationship with our outcomes.
Oh, and bless him... he managed to dive deep into talking about sh^t (literally).
Enjoy the ride!

He's back... the insightful, wise and a little bit brilliant Jem Fuller, and he's got some epic questions you might like to ask yourself! Our conversation revolves around digging deeper into why we do what we do and unveiling the values that lie beneath our actions and behaviours. Everyone bangs on about values and how important they are, but are we certain about what we believe our values are, or are we getting snookered by social ideals, expectations and perhaps a little people-pleasing?
