Podcast rewind, this episode gives you permission to not feel obligated to do all the things around the holidays that you normally do 'just because it's family' or otherwise.
I discuss how you have free will and autonomy as an adult to decide if you do things or not.
You don't have to do anything you don't want to do.
And yes, some people won't like it and it's ok.
If you do decide to do it even though you don't like it, own that it was still your decision to make. You will feel more empowered and better about being there than telling yourself you have to suck it up because it's what's expected of you.
Learning how to start honoring yourself and doing things that are right for you is a process, take it slow, and watch how when you start honoring yourself, you feel better and will not need to escape with alcohol as much.

I just held a short retreat for a lovely group of women whom I have been working together with for the past 5 months. We have connected, we shared hard stories, we celebrated each other, we coached, and we healed, it was truly a transformative experience and it all came together in person, here in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
On the podcast we discussed how it's easier to be vulnerable in a group of women who share the same struggles vs family or friends, the benefits of communities where you are all working towards similar goals, what letting go of perfection can do for you and so much more!

Hi friends, in the wake of our latest political news I thought it might be good to remember what we can and can't control.
And you can apply what I am teaching here to any unexpected event or un-desired outcome in your life.

This episode explores the idea that we need to 'let things go.'
And the truth is it's hard to let things go, especially if you have been hurt or experienced painful things, like death, divorce, family estrangement and more.
So, instead of letting go, we recommend you focus on healing and acceptance.
This doesn't mean you allow bad things in your life to keep happening, it means we need to find a middle ground when you get triggered to soften the edges and accept your feelings instead of pushing them down and trying to force yourself to let it go, when really, that doesn't work.
You can get better at how you react to certain painful memories or things from your past.
This episodes goes into some tools you can use to accept versus letting it go.

Things are feeling stressful right now for a lot of people.
Hurricanes, election cycles, problems at home with kids or family and this can leave us feeling overly stressed, worn out and worried.
This episode helps you with some tips on how to deal with extreme stress and difficult situations, which don't include alcohol.
Drinking in response to deeply stressful situations isn't good for you or your nervous system in the long run.

When did we become a society that became scared of negative recourse when sharing personal beliefs, values, and decisions?
I had this question burning in my mind because of how divisive we can be at times, especially now, in our current political climate.
In this week's episode I dive into how to expand our emotional capacity for discomfort, especially when we are presented with opposing views and beliefs.
Being divisive doesn't work. Black and white thinking doesn't work. And getting angry or hateful at other people when they don't share the same beliefs at us doesn't work..
So, what works?
Empathy, understanding, and expanding our own ability to be with our uncomfortable feelings when we see other people thinking and doing differently than us.
It improves YOUR quality of life. It makes things more peaceful.
It helps bring people together.
We can solve problems better, drink less alcohol and be happier in our lives.

The episode I share the news that a lovely man that I met while I was just beginning my journey to change my relationship with alcohol, has passed away.
He owned an organic wine farm in Sicily called Agriturismo Tarantola. https://www.gorgodeldrago.it/en/
His name is Filippo Testa and he touched my life in a profound and deeply spiritual way.
I visited his farm during my journey to stop over-drinking and I came home from that trip and wrote a podcast about the unconditional love that I found there on his farm and in Sicily.
This podcast shares that original podcast I wrote and recorded back in 2018 along with 2 poems that Phillipo and I created together using piano music that the shared with us while we were on his farm. It is unbelievably beautiful and I wish everyone could have an experience like I did, then.
His legacy will live on forever. I will never forget the impact he had on my life at such a special, transformative time.
