*Apologies friends! Again, Zoom only recorded with Maddy's mic so Emma is a little quiet in this episode"
Today, we’re going to be sharing how to figure out what your rate should be as a content creator or influencer, and 3 factors that you should consider.
1. Your financial goals and your costs
Start by evaluating your costs. How often do you purchase new camera equipment, or do you hire a photographer? Are you paying for monthly clothing rental services like Rent the Runway? How much do you spend a month on props for photoshoots?
2. The Value you bring
As a content creator you are creating actionable, repurposeable content that the brand can share on their own channels. Our images have had advertising funds put behind them by brands, been used on websites, and even the brands own advertisements!
3. Your time investment
One signal that I you are charging too little per Instagram post is that the amount of time you are putting into creating the content didn’t feel worth it for the payoff. Your time is absolutely valuable!

Let’s debunk this myth with: “being an influencer isn’t a real job” and let’s breakdown the skills that content creators and influencers use in their careers:
1. Photography/Photo Editing
Many content creators and influencers take and edit their own photos. Photography is a skill. Photo editing is a skill. Both skills take time to develop.
Brands hire influencers to produce high-quality photos for social media ads. Both of us have had brands’ re-purpose our photos for websites, email marketing, or add paid dollars behind our images to boost ads.
There are content creators out there who have been hired by brands to do commercial photography.
2. Project Management
If brands don’t provide a timeline, I provide the brand timelines as well as share status updates on what step we’re at in the brand collaboration. As a former project manager, I’m constantly prioritizing/de-prioritizing tasks, planning and scheduling content.
3. Creative Director/Stylist for Photo Shoots
One thing you’ve been seeing more from us this year is our mood boards and our ideation process for photo shoots. What you guys are seeing is the creative direction behind our photo shoots.
Influencers and content creators are both creative directors and stylists for photo shoots. If brands are putting together a photo shoot, there’s usually someone who is the creative director managing the overall vision. There’s also someone styling the shoot – whether that’s with wardrobe or the actual set itself.
Tune in for the rest of the skills we cover!

Today we’re going to share 6 negotiation tips for influencers. We had such a great conversation on Clubhouse about negotiation tips with our friend Austen Tosone. We wanted to make sure you guys had a chance to hear the tips on the podcast.
Some of the tips we discuss include:
Tip #1: Don’t send a rate sheet
Instead, let the brand know that each collaboration is priced differently depending on the number of deliverables, timeline, exclusivity. You should ask the brand for their budget. You can literally send the brand, “what is your budget for this campaign?”
Tip #2: Understand what you can negotiate: (all these things are 100% negotiable)
Tip #3: Share your stats as social proof
If you’re producing content, you’re seeing how it performs with metrics like reach, impressions, engagement, and more.
If you want a brand to talk to a brand, you need to bring your metrics to your table. Brands are businesses who are motivated to drive sales, acquire new customers, generate leads, and build brand awareness. Brands measure and track their performance with metrics (key performance indicators or k.p.i’s for short).

Are you looking for ways to free up your time as a content creator? Here are 5 ways to work smarter, not harder as a content creator this year.
Tip 1 to work smarter, not harder in 2021: Evaluate your true free time
Before we can jump in and share a few ways to help you save time and energy as a content creator or influencer this year, we have to take a step back and talk about your schedule and your actual free time.
Our tip is to use the 168 hours exercise to figure out where your time is currently going.
168 hours = 24 hours x 7 days a week
Write out the time spent:
· Eating
· Sleeping
· Working
· Commuting
· Working on your side hustle
· Exercising
· Spending time with your family etc.
Take that total amount of hours and subtract it from 168 hours = your actual free time.
Tip 2 to work smarter, not harder in 2021: Get Organized
If one of your goals to produce content for your podcast, Instagram, blog, YouTube channel, TikTok, etc, then you probably need some form or organization to make sure you meet your content goals.
We recommend picking 2-3 tools to stay organized and scheduling out a time to plan out your schedule.
Tune in for the next 3 tips!

In part 2 of our interview with Kherington, we discuss:
Influencer myths:
· Influencer Myth #1: The Instagram Algorithm is ruining engagement
o Let’s break this down
o If you have a true content strategy, you won’t be affected by the algorithm
o Focus on what you have control over – you can’t control the algorithm, but you can control consistency, presence, the value you deliver, etc.
· Influencer Myth #2: You need thousands and thousands of followers to land brand campaigns
· Influencer Myth #3: It's too late to start a blog or Instagram because the influencer industry is too saturated

Today we’re going to be sharing four questions to ask yourself if you are interested in becoming an influencer or content creator. So if you have any interest in creating content for Instagram, TikTok, or your future YouTube or Blog, this podcast episode is for you.
Question #1: Do you like creating content?
· Do you like taking photos? Do you like having your photo taken?
· Do you like creating videos? Do you like editing videos?
· Do you like speaking in front of the camera? Do you like writing or editing copy?
Before you jump into the influencer industry, you have to test out if you like producing content. Influencers are content creators. Their jobs are to create, produce, and publish content – which can look like photos, videos, or written copy (blog posts, captions, etc.)
Question #2: What passions or interests do you want to create content about?
· If you want to become a content creator or influencer, what do you want to talk or create about?
· Are you passionate about finding the best food in your city?
· Are you excited to share home cooked meals for two?
· Are you interested in sharing your love of plants?
Question #3: What’s your purpose or mission statement?
If you learned you want to create content and you’ve picked a niche to start with, what’s your purpose or your mission statement?
Why is it important to define your purpose?
Defining who you are and what you’re here to do will help potential audience members understand who you are. People want to know what to follow you for.
Question #4: What are your communication strengths? What platforms match those communication strength’s?
Then think about what platforms make sense for your communication strength. So if you love writing, consider launching a blog or an Instagram. If you love creating videos, consider YouTube or TikTok. If you love speaking but don’t want to show your face on camera, consider a podcast.
