At the end of a year, I typically like to share some journal prompts for you to write and reflect on. But I realized we hadn’t ever actually talked about why journaling can be so helpful and how you can get started. So we’re gonna dig into that today. Joining me for this conversation is Olivia F. Scott. Olivia and I chatted about what journaling can unlock in our lives, how to get started with a journaling practice, and she shares a beautiful journaling exercise for you to wrap up 2021 and usher in 2022.

This week’s episode of Insecure finds Issa contemplating lots of different choices that left me thinking about how we actually go about making decisions in our lives. So of course I had to get Dr. Oriowo back in the booth so we could chat all about it. She and I discussed the many decisions Issa is contemplating and what information she may need to make them, how we reconcile choices in our own lives when our heads and hearts may be in different places, and our predictions for what we might see in the final 2 episodes. This episode does contain spoilers.

Our experiences in spaces like social media are heavily impacted by our identities and how we show up in the world. While this can be the grounds for increased connections and networks, it can also be the basis for things like racialized cyber bullying and harassment. Joining me today to dig deeper into what these experiences look like online and how we might be impacted are Dr. Brendesha Tynes and Dr. Danielle Hairston. During our conversations we chatted about what radicalized cyberbullying and harassment might look like online, how it impacts young people, how it might impact our mental health, and how we can support ourselves and loved ones who might have had these experiences.

It’s important to note that healing looks different for all of us and that each of us might find different things helpful. Joining us today to chat about how healing can happen through sound meditation and breathwork is LeNaya Smith Crawford, LMFT. LeNaya and I chatted about the definition of holistic healing, how things like sound meditation and breathwork work can support healing, how to find someone appropriately trained to offer these services, and she shares a special sound bath just for our community.

The holiday season, even when not in a pandemic, can bring up lots of stuff. While this season may bring lots of good things like gathering with loved ones and some days off of work, it can also mean family pressures, anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. In November 2017, I shared some thoughts here on the podcast about the differences between the holiday blues and a major depressive disorder and a few tips on how to steady yourself for the holidays and all of that information is just as true today.
