Maybe this feeling has been with you for years, for decades, in all kinds of situations. Sometimes more, sometimes less. And you could never really describe it.

    "Don't take life so seriously."

...Doesn't really interest us when you feel overwhelmed at work or you're fighting with your partner again.

Once again being a child, when we didn't have all these responsibilities.

Today I would like to show you with this bottle example, why we as adults lose the childlike ease in life.

  • E156 - 5 Reasons, Why Dating as An HSP is So Hard

20% of the population has a highly sensitive personality according to Elaine Aron.

The so-called Sensory Processing Sensitivity causes a heightened perception of stimuli.

The processing of stimuli in the brain is also intensified.

As a result, highly sensitive people go through life with a high level of sensitivity.

And therefore also through dating life.

Have you ever had the feeling in your life that no partner really fits? (zoom)

And do your friends keep telling you that you're too picky? (zoom)

Well, then today I have 5 reasons why dating is so hard for HSPs:

    1) Strong awareness of needs

Particularly sensitive people are very clear about what their needs are. As a result, they know exactly what they need and want and what not. Also, when choosing a partner ;-)

    2) Desire to be deeply understood

HSPs have deep relationships. If you are highly sensitive yourself, you may have experienced the following: You meet someone who understands and respects you on a completely different level. It just instantly hits you. This deep understanding of each other is rare, but once experienced, you would never want a relationship without it.

    3) Very fine aesthetic appreciation

A high sense of aesthetics is important for many highly sensitive people. They know exactly what they find aesthetically attractive and what they do not. There is a fine line between external attractiveness and potential partners. Especially body smells and tastes, pheromones, facial features, voice pitch or body shape are perceived as particularly sensitive by HSPs.

    4) Being a loner

Often highly sensitive people are rather loners. This is not necessarily due to their introversion, but many have learned that they often overtax others with their needs.

That's why they think carefully about who they enter into a relationship with and when.

Such people often say: I would rather stay alone all my life than enter into a relationship that doesn't quite meet my needs.

    5) Living a secluded life

Two thirds of all highly sensitive people are introverts. Those who live a more withdrawn life also have less contact with other people. This reduces the likelihood of meeting a potential partner. Especially if the demands are high.

I would like to add that there are of course also many “normally or not overly sensitive” people who are also very sensitive and selective in their search for a partner. However, high sensitivity can intensify this phenomenon.

  • E155 - 3 Techniques to Fall Asleep in 12 Minutes Anywhere (HSP + Insomnia)

If you have trouble falling asleep anywhere in a few minutes, either your thoughts and feelings are not letting you rest or you are not familiar with the situation or environment.

I'll show you 3 techniques that will help you fall asleep anywhere within 10-15 minutes.

Falling asleep is the result of maximum relaxation, both physically and mentally.

The following 3 techniques aim to achieve maximum relaxation.

On the one hand by stopping unwanted thought loops, on the other hand by making you feel safe and secure.

    Technique 1: Blind Spot Focusing

Close both eyes and look for the blind spot in your visual perception. With your eyes closed, this is a small black dot or area in the centre of your field of vision. It is still a little darker than the rest.

Try to keep your focus on this spot constantly. When thoughts or feelings arise, imagine that they simply fly past the blind spot. Breathe calmly until you fall asleep.

I developed this technique for myself as a small child because I used to be very hyper.

    Technique 2: Autogenic training

Choose a calming formula and repeat it over and over for yourself in your head.

The therapist Bettina Löhr used to give me the formula:

"I am very calm and relaxed."

Also "I am tired and my body is getting very heavy." Can be helpful.

Lie down in bed, close your eyes and say your formula again and again. Breathe calmly until you slowly fall asleep.

If you are in a situation where you do not feel safe and secure and want to fall asleep, the formula can also be:

    "I feel safe and secure".

    Technique 3: Emotional resourcing

Use your imagination and focus on places and people that you associate with safety and peacefulness. In both cases, close your eyes and either imagine a place where you feel really safe, calm and secure. Or you imagine a person lying next to you who makes you feel maximally calm and secure. This could be, for example, your partner, a friend or a parent, but also fictional characters.

There are several emotional resources you can draw on. These are called the Calm Place or a Nuturing Figure.

The technique comes from Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

Emotional resourcing helps you fall asleep when you don't feel safe in a place.

  • E154 - If You Can't Sleep in Unfamiliar Surroundings, Do This!

What could be worse than finally flying off on holiday, falling into bed totally exhausted after the long journey, but then not being able to get a wink of sleep?

Or you're visiting a good friend in another city after a long time, but you just can't fall asleep in a foreign flat?

I'm going to show you a quick technique for falling asleep in exactly these situations.

    1. Find a place to sleep that is as close as possible to a wall with a view of the door. When people slept in caves, they slept near a wall facing the entrance. This meant that they could be attacked from fewer sides.

    2. Create a room climate that is as similar as possible to the one in your home. If you tend to sleep in cool rooms, open the window. Otherwise, turn on the heating. The more similar the atmosphere is to the one you are used to, the more familiar and safe the environment will seem.

    3. Find peace through the certainty that a feeling of familiarity will develop after 2 nights at the latest.

Highly sensitive people in particular, but also many normally sensitive people, simply need a certain amount of time to get used to new surroundings. Relief is provided by the certainty that one usually gets used to the new circumstances after 1-2 nights and that the new environment then feels familiar and safe.
