Mabon marks the Autumn Equinox and the second harvest of the year in the Wheel of the Year. It’s a time when day and night are equal length, symbolizing balance and harmony. Referred to as the "Witches' Thanksgiving," it’s a time to give thanks for the harvest and the abundance in our lives. As the days grow shorter, we reflect on the year so far and prepare for the coming winter months.

Did you know? Mabon celebrates the story of Demeter, goddess of grain, agriculture, and fertility, and her daughter Persephone. When Hades abducts Persephone and forces her to marry him in the underworld, Demeter causes the Earth to go barren. Zeus negotiates with Hades to allow Persephone to be free for half the year, so Demeter only allows abundance on Earth half the year.Even though the exact date of the equinox is September 22, we can celebrate this whole season.

Money likes direction. It likes purpose. It likes to know what it’s being invited into.

• My old belief that I needed a big, charitable, world-saving vision to justify wanting more money

• The years I spent going to Bible college, working as a pastor, evangelizing door-to-door, tithing, volunteering, and giving everything I had to a cause I believed was the only one that truly mattered

• What it means for me to now pray to a force of Love that wants Life not merely to survive, but to Flourish

• Why I believe talking to the ancestors can expand our access to Intuition, God, Love, and the Wisdom already within us

• What happened when I asked my ancestors how much Money they wanted me to make—and what they wanted me to do with it

Now, whenever I make a plan to earn more Money, I pray blessings over it and tell it exactly where I’m going to put it.

Earning more no longer feels like chasing an arbitrary number.

It feels like participating in the ancient movement of Life pouring itself forward.

So I want to ask you:

Not why you’re supposed to want it.

Not the answer that sounds the most generous, responsible, spiritual, or impressive.

What’s the answer that brings your whole body alive?

“What if we’re not actually pursuing Intuition? What if Intuition has been pursuing us all along?”

What if your Inner Accountant doesn’t need to be pushed away, silenced, or even healed? What if she just needs a promotion?

In the last episode, I introduced you to my client Kiki and shared some of the story behind a coaching conversation we had about receiving money for the spiritual work she’s already been doing for years.

In this episode, with Kiki’s permission, I’m sharing that full coaching call.

We talk about the part of us I’ve come to affectionately call the Inner Accountant: the part who keeps track of what’s coming in, what’s going out, what could go wrong, how much we need, and whether there’ll be Enough.

And we love her—she makes some really good points.

We don’t want to shame her, silence her, or exile her. Her job has been to help us survive.

But maybe it’s time to upgrade her job description from merely surviving to Flourishing.

In this coaching conversation, we explore:

• Why it can feel easier to charge for work that drains us than for the work that brings us alive

• The belief that spiritual, healing, creative, nurturing, or purposeful work shouldn’t cost money

• How receiving money can expand our capacity to serve

• The poverty, martyrdom, and self-sacrifice stories many of us inherited through religion

• Why money can feel “icky” or gross when it enters the same room as our spiritual gifts

• The difference between surviving, Sufficiency, and Flourishing

• Why there’s no shame in having a contingency plan

• What changes when we let practicality support our spirituality instead of treating them as opposites

• The possibility that we don’t need to heal every Money Story before we start living differently

The living-it-out is part of the healing.

Sometimes we gotta look at the numbers. Make the plan. Let someone pay us. Allow ourselves to receive before every part of us feels completely ready.

And that lived experience is what changes our relationship with money.

“If it's spiritual work, you should just be struggling to get by.”

One of my clients, Kiki, said this to me recently when we were exploring why it felt so uncomfortable for her to start receiving Money for work she’s already been doing for years—for free.

In this episode, we explore what happens when we confuse self-denial with generosity—and why rejecting the values of capitalism doesn't require us to reject Money, commerce, receiving, or exchange.

Because as I told Kiki:

“You're not solving capitalism by you not getting paid.”

We’ll explore:

• why women in particular can attach virtue to self-sacrifice, especially around nurturing, mothering, spiritual, healing, creative, and caring work

• the differences between capitalism, coercion, and commerce

• why the answer to an extractive system isn't self-extraction

• why a one-way flow eventually starts to feel gross

• why spending Money can actually feel really good when we're moving our resources—and our hearts—toward what we value

• what changes when we recognize receiving as an essential part of reciprocity

• the ways we might refuse to receive resources other than Money, including Time, Care, Attention, Help, Rest, and generosity

• whether we've unconsciously made our inability to receive into evidence of our own Goodness

Sacred Reciprocity isn't only about Money. It's about our willingness to participate in the flow.

Some of us have become very, very comfortable standing on only one side of that flow—the giving side—while refusing to receive.

I'm not asking you to become less generous.

I'm inviting you to get curious:

Where have you confused self-denial with generosity?

What might Sacred Reciprocity look like instead?

• the history and meaning of the phrase Bread and Roses

• why Sufficiency is actually something inside of us, not outside of us

• what changes when we expand our resourcing beyond just our individual income

• what Nature can teach us about our need for both sustenance AND Beauty

• the “made-up game” of Money and the difference between questioning its rules and pretending its consequences aren’t real

• what it might sound like for Love to tell us the Truth about our Money without using shame

I also share a Love Letter one of my clients, Kristin, wrote to herself from Money after a week of exploring her relationship with debt, freedom, minimalism, Beauty, pleasure, and her desire for both Bread AND Roses.

Her letter contains one of my favorite expressions of Sufficiency: “We can work with that!”

What did you believe about money before you realized you had other options?

In this episode, I’m sharing my own Money Story—and some of the experiences that shaped it long before I realized I was creating one.

My dad’s gambling addiction and my parents’ divorce took my family from upper middle class to below the poverty line when I was around 12–13 years old. At the same time, I was growing up in a conservative, fundamentalist, high-control church where I absorbed complicated messages about money and faith.

Somewhere along the way, those stories became tangled together.

I came to believe that having money was the opposite of having faith—and that maybe God didn’t give me money because He knew I couldn’t be trusted with it.

Nobody ever explicitly taught me that.

But that’s the thing about our Money Stories: we don’t only inherit what people tell us. We make meaning from what happens to us.

• How childhood, family, religion, culture, and painful experiences shape our relationship with money
• The difference between blame and recognizing how we co-created our own stories

What is enough?

Enough money. Enough food. Enough time. Enough work and rest. Enough security for the future—and enough pleasure in the now.

We talk a lot about scarcity and abundance, but in this episode, I’m exploring a third possibility: Sufficiency.

Not “technically enough to survive.” Not settling or convincing ourselves we shouldn’t want more. But enough to flourish in this Season of our Lives.

As we move toward Autumn and Harvest Season, I’m looking to Nature and our ancestors for a different way of relating to resources. The Harvest wasn’t the same every year. Nature didn’t demand maximum output in every Season. There were times to receive, produce, gather, distribute, release—and rest.

What might happen if we let Nature teach us something about our relationship with money, too?

• Every opportunity wants a yes.

• Intelligent Resistance. 

For women especially, there are endless things we supposedly have to be doing. But I believe resistance isn't laziness or procrastination. It's intuitive useful information about the strategy, timing, environment, expectation, or our motivating force.

• Changing the environment instead of changing yourself. 

Rather than trying to change yourself, what could you change in your environment to work with your motivational wiring? It's way more loving, not to mention easier, to remove what's obstructing our Nature rather than endlessly improving ourselves.

• “What are you motivated to do?”  

Instead of Why can't I make myself work?, we ask where the energy is naturally trying to go.

• Fear, force, and shame versus Love. 

Sometimes we're resisting not the thing itself but the way we're trying to make ourselves do it.

• Expanding your permission field.

Maybe the answer is not to do the thing at all. The goal isn't to manufacture motivation. It's to understand what the lack of motivation is communicating, and then decide what to do.
