En: The bakery bell rang as Jean and Marie entered.

En: Marie was early and had already chosen the last croissant on the counter.

En: Jean insisted that it was up to him because he had arrived first, but Marie refused to give in.

En: They argued relentlessly, using harsh words and claiming their own right to claim the last croissant.

Fr: Finalement, une personne les remarqua.
En: Finally, someone noticed them.

En: It was Pierre, one of their friends.

En: Seeing an opportunity to resolve the conflict and end the argument, Pierre grabbed the last croissant and ate it.

En: "Now that the croissant is eaten, you don't have to fight for it anymore," he says.

En: Jean and Marie were both surprised.

En: They had never imagined that Pierre would resolve their dispute in this way.

En: The trio then proceeded to discuss the nature of life - how a small thing like a croissant can cause so much conflict and how Pierre managed to solve their problem in such a simple way.

En: Eventually, each of them laughed as they thought back to the day's events.

En: The three parted as good friends, knowing that next time they had to remember that the most important thing was their friendship and not just a croissant.

En: Under the hot morning sun, the quiet bakery stood empty.

En: The only thing that remained was the smell of fresh bread and warm croissants, and the memory of a fun day with friends.
