Story Transcript:

Es: José estaba caminando por las calles llenas de color de la Ciudad de México buscando un lugar donde comer.
En: José was walking through the colorful streets of Mexico City looking for a place to eat.

Es: Había oído hablar de un puesto de tacos en una esquina que servía la comida más deliciosa de todo México.
En: I had heard of a corner taco stand that served the most delicious food in all of Mexico.

Es: José tenía hambre y quería probar algo nuevo, así que decidió ir allí.
En: José was hungry and wanted to try something new, so he decided to go there.

Es: Cuando llegó al puesto de tacos, vio que había una larga fila de personas esperando su turno para ordenar.
En: When he got to the taco stand, he saw that there was a long line of people waiting their turn to order.

Es: José se puso al final de la fila y empezó a esperar.
En: José got to the end of the line and began to wait.

Es: Mientras esperaba, se dio cuenta de que el vendedor tenía una sonrisa amable y una mirada acogedora.
En: As she waited, she noticed that the vendor had a friendly smile and a welcoming look.

Es: Al fin llegó su turno.
En: At last his turn came.

Es: José estaba emocionado de probar los tacos, pero cuando abrió la boca para decir lo que quería, algo salió mal.
En: Jose was excited to try the tacos, but when he opened his mouth to say what he wanted, something went wrong.

Es: "Hola, señor, ¿qué le gustaría ordenar?
En: "Hello sir, what would you like to order?"

Es: "Un burrito, por favor", respondió José.
En: "A burrito, please," José replied.

En: The seller was puzzled for a moment.

Es: "Lo siento, señor, esto es México, no es Chipotle", dijo con una sonrisa.
En: "I'm sorry sir, this is Mexico, it's not Chipotle," he said with a smile.

Es: José estaba confundido.
En: Jose was confused.

Es: No entendía lo que el vendedor quería decir.
En: I did not understand what the seller meant.

Es: "¿Qué quieres decir con eso?"
En: "What do you mean by that?"

Es: preguntó José.
En: Jose asked.

Es: "Lo siento, señor, Chipotle es un restaurante de comida rápida en Estados Unidos, no tenemos burritos aquí.
En: "I'm sorry sir, Chipotle is a fast food restaurant in the United States, we don't have burritos here.

Es: Pero te puedo recomendar algunos tacos muy ricos", explicó el vendedor.
En: But I can recommend some very tasty tacos," the vendor explained.

Es: José se sintió un poco decepcionado, pero decidió seguir adelante y probar los tacos recomendados por el vendedor.
En: Jose was a bit disappointed, but decided to go ahead and try the vendor's recommended tacos.

Es: Después de todo, estaba en México y quería probar una nueva comida.
En: After all, I was in Mexico and I wanted to try a new food.

Es: Jose tomó su pedido y buscó un lugar para sentarse y comer.
En: Jose took his order and found a place to sit down and eat.

Es: Empezó a comer los tacos y encontró que eran deliciosos.
En: He started eating the tacos and found them to be delicious.

En: As she ate, she realized how much she had learned about the culture in Mexico that day.
