Story Transcript:

Uk: Коли зорі ховалися за сніговими хмарами, а вітер ще лютіше збивав з ніг в тихій гірській місцині, Микола зупинився, важко дихаючи.
En: When the stars hid behind snowy clouds and the wind blew even more fiercely in the quiet mountain area, Mykola stopped, breathing heavily.

Uk: На обличчі Стіви, як її кликали місцеві в Карпатах, застигла стурбована посмішка.
En: On Stiva's face, as the locals in the Karpaty called her, a worried smile froze.

Uk: Зимовий мороз пробивався крізь їхній одяг, але бажання досягти вершини кипіло в ньому, як вогонь.
En: The winter frost pierced through their clothing, but the desire to reach the summit boiled within him like fire.

Uk: ― Миколо, це не жарти, ― промовила Світлана, обвівши поглядом сніжну далечінь.
En: "Mykola, this isn't a joke," said Svitlana, casting her eyes over the snowy expanse.

Uk: ― Висота здолає будь-кого, навіть найсильнішого.
En: "The altitude can defeat anyone, even the strongest."

Uk: Микола всміхнувся, хоча його лоб був мокрим від поту, а дихати ставало все важче.

En: He had come from Lviv to see the world from heights, not just to return home with stories about hostels.

Uk: Світлана, досвідчена провідниця, знала всі капризи гір.
En: Svitlana, an experienced guide, knew all the whims of the mountains.

Uk: Вона бачила, як багато туристів мріють про підкорення вершин, але не всі слухали її поради.
En: She had seen how many tourists dream of conquering the peaks, but not all heeded her advice.

Uk: Свіже повітря Карпат плело свої історії по лініях ялин і крутих схилах.
En: The fresh Karpaty air wove its stories along the lines of pines and steep slopes.

Uk: ― Гаразд, але я тебе не покину, ― твердо сказала Світлана, дивлячись просто в його очі.
En: "All right, but I won't leave you," Svitlana firmly said, looking straight into his eyes.

Uk: Вони піднялися вище, сніг скрипів під ногами, а вітер казковими відірваними нотами завивав у соснах.
En: They climbed higher, the snow creaked underfoot, and the wind wailed with fairy-like broken notes among the pines.

Uk: Гора не мала жалоби до тих, хто зважувався зривати її мовчання.
En: The mountain had no pity for those who dared to break its silence.

Uk: Та недалеко від вершини, де сніг вкривав усе наче білий килим, Микола зупинився.
En: But not far from the summit, where the snow covered everything like a white carpet, Mykola stopped.

Uk: Світ обернувся навколо, загойдуючи землю під ногами.
En: The world spun around, swaying the ground beneath his feet.

Uk: Він відчув, як слабнуть коліна.
En: He felt his knees weaken.

Uk: Його серце билося частіше, під шкірою хололо.
En: His heart beat faster, growing cold under the skin.

Uk: ― Миколо!
En: "Mykola!"

Uk: ― скрикнула Світа, підхопивши його під руку, коли він раптом звалився на сніг.
En: shouted Svita, catching him by the arm when he suddenly collapsed onto the snow.

Uk: Повітря навколо ніби поглинули холодні обійми, і замість сили залишилося бажання просто замерзнути.
En: The air around them seemed to be engulfed in cold embraces, and instead of strength, there was only the desire to freeze.

Uk: Вони залишились там, заслонені від шторму, поки не з'явився рятувальний загін, який приніс їх донизу, де вершини були лише у думках, а здоров'я відновлювалося.
En: They stayed there, shielded from the storm, until a rescue team appeared and brought them down, where the peaks existed only in thoughts, and health was being restored.

Uk: Тепло нижньої висоти та піклування не дали горам відібрати частку віднаднощів життя.
En: The warmth of the lower altitude and care did not allow the mountains to take a part of the joy of life.

Uk: Микола зачаїв усередині нове усвідомлення — честь і відвага не завжди перемагають природу.
En: Mykola harbored a new awareness inside — honor and courage do not always conquer nature.

Uk: Він подивився на Світлану і ледь чутно промовив: «Дякую».
En: He looked at Svitlana and whispered softly, "Thank you."

Uk: У тому невеличкому селі, під густими димами з димоходів, він знайшов більше, ніж просто шлях до гірської вершини.
En: In that small village, under thick smoke from the chimneys, he found more than just a path to the mountain peak.

Uk: Він знайшов повагу до сили природи і мудрість досвідчених порад.
En: He found respect for the power of nature and the wisdom of experienced advice.

Uk: Хоча дорога додому була ще довга, це була дорога вже іншим Миколою.
En: Although the road home was still long, it was a journey for a changed Mykola.
