Story Transcript:

Fr: Sophie était une touriste américaine qui venait de débarquer à Paris.
En: Sophie was an American tourist who had just landed in Paris.

Fr: Elle avait faim et avait envie de goûter un délicieux croissant français.
En: She was hungry and wanted to taste a delicious French croissant.

Fr: Elle aperçut une petite boulangerie et entra pour en acheter un.
En: She spotted a small bakery and went in to buy one.

Fr: Quand elle entra, elle vit des assiettes de crustacés sur le comptoir et, ne sachant pas parler français, elle pointa vers eux et dit : "Je voudrais un crabe s'il vous plaît."
En: When she entered she saw plates of shellfish on the counter and, not knowing how to speak French, she pointed at them and said, "I would like a crab please."

Fr: Le boulanger la regarda perplexe et Sophie aperçu des sourcils froncés.
En: The baker looked at her puzzled and Sophie noticed frowning.

Fr: Elle se rappela alors qu'elle devait dire "croissant" et non "crabe" en français.
En: She then remembered that she had to say "croissant" and not "crabe" in French.

Fr: "Oups, je voulais dire "un croissant" s'il vous plaît."
En: "Oops, I meant 'a croissant' please."

Fr: Le boulanger sourit et lui donna un croissant fraîchement cuit.
En: The baker smiled and handed her a freshly baked croissant.

Fr: Sophie prit une bouchée et fut émerveillée par la saveur riche et beurrée.
En: Sophie took a bite and marveled at the rich, buttery flavor.

En: Sophie, wanting to help the boy, asked him if he had a picture of his cat on his phone so someone could help him find it.

Fr: Le jeune garçon hocha la tête et sortit son téléphone.
En: The young boy nodded and took out his phone.

En: Sophie looked at the photo and saw that the cat was black and white, with a small white mark on its nose.

Fr: Sophie se rappela alors avoir aperçu un chat semblable à celui-ci sur le chemin de la boulangerie.
En: Sophie then remembered having seen a cat similar to this one on the way to the bakery.

Fr: Elle prit le garçon par la main et courut vers l'endroit où elle avait vu le chat, le garçon suivant derrière elle.
En: She took the boy by the hand and ran to where she had seen the cat, the boy following behind her.

Fr: Après avoir couru pendant quelques minutes, ils virent le chat dans une ruelle à côté d'un bâtiment.
En: After running for a few minutes, they saw the cat in an alley next to a building.

Fr: Le garçon était si heureux qu'il sauta de joie et courut vers le chat pour le caresser.
En: The boy was so happy that he jumped for joy and ran to pet the cat.
