Uk: На краю широкого поля, де жовті соняшники тягнулися до сонця, Оксана стояла, дивлячись на горизонт.
En: At the edge of the wide field, where the yellow sunflowers reached for the sun, Oksana stood, gazing at the horizon.

Uk: Літо кипіло в повітрі, аромат соняшників змішувався з дзижчанням бджіл, а серце Оксани билося в очікуванні свята Івана Купала.
En: Summer boiled in the air, the aroma of sunflowers mingled with the buzzing of bees, and Oksana's heart beat in anticipation of the Ivan Kupala holiday.

Uk: Це ніч обіцяла чари та пригоди, про які вона мала намір дізнатися.
En: This night promised magic and adventures she intended to discover.

Uk: Її двоюрідний брат, Богдан, підійшов до неї.
En: Her cousin, Bohdan, approached her.

Uk: — Богдане, коли ще, якщо не сьогодні! Це ж Івана Купала! Я хочу відчути всі таємниці цієї ночі.
En: "When else, if not today, Bohdane! It's Ivan Kupala! I want to experience all the mysteries of this night."

Uk: Богдан зітхнув.
En: Bohdan sighed.

Uk: Він поважав традиції, але небезпеки свята його лякали.
En: He respected traditions, but the dangers of the festival worried him.

Uk: Стрибки через багаття, нічне купання в ріці — кожний рік хтось отримує травми.
En: Jumping over bonfires, nighttime swimming in the river—every year someone got injured.

Uk: Але він не хотів бути тим, хто стримуватиме її дух.
En: But he didn't want to be the one to restrain her spirit.

Uk: — Я хочу, щоб ти була в безпеці, — сказав він.
En: "I want you to be safe," he said.

Uk: — Але якщо ти дійсно вирішила...
En: "But if you've truly decided..."

Uk: Вони разом сіли на окинутий фургон і поїхали в село, де вже зібралося багато людей.
En: They both got into the worn-out truck and drove to the village, where a lot of people had already gathered.

Uk: Багаття тріщало, висвітлюючи панораму, яка оживала від ошатного натовпу.
En: The bonfire crackled, illuminating the panorama that came alive with the elegantly dressed crowd.

Uk: Коли вони дійшли до кола, де люди збиралися для стрибків через вогонь, Оксана зупинилася.
En: When they reached the circle where people gathered to jump over the fire, Oksana stopped.

Uk: Її очі блищали від вогняної мальви.
En: Her eyes shone with the fiery glow.

Uk: — Я дуже хочу спробувати, — сказала вона, дивлячись на Богдана.
En: "I really want to try," she said, looking at Bohdan.

Uk: З дбайливими рухами Богдан склав дрова так, що вони тільки ледь-ледь видать жар.
En: With careful movements, Bohdan arranged the wood so that it barely showed a glow.

Uk: Удвох вони взялися за руки і разом перестрибнули через вогонь, наче перебираючи казковий поріг між звичайністю і чарами.
En: Together they held hands and jumped over the fire, as if stepping through a magical threshold between the ordinary and the enchanted.
