In Episode 210 I sit down with Adam Livesay. Adam recently joined our Jiu Jitsu team and has brought with him a wealth of knowledge in so many different aspects of life! He was a lifelong athlete, however after a catastrophic injury his fitness was derailed, and his primary focus became entrepreneurship and later launching his company Elevat. Adam discusses what that path entailed and how he rediscovered health, fitness and grappling later in life! He’s an incredible human being and I’m grateful he spent a few hours sharing his wisdom! In Episode 207 I sit down with my friend Jereme Bounds. Jereme is someone I immediately took a liking to, he’s a great human being and easy to talk to and get to know. His kids attend my jiu jitsu class and he recently pulled me aside seeking advice on pursuing health and fitness as he recently tipped the scales at over 300lbs. I shot him straight and told him what I’d recommend he changes, and he jumped all in. It’s only been a week, and I know that’s nothing in the grand scheme of things, but I want to highlight his story as he took those initial steps to change his ways because so many Americans are sitting in that purgatory and failing to get on the path. In Episode 206 I sit down with my Brother Johnny Martinez. Johnny and I first connected when he attended a Guns & Gis as a student. We then went to Costa Rica together to attend an Ayahuasca Ceremony and a true bond was formed! He’s a former Marine, and savage jiu jitsu practitioner and someone that has really delved into growth and healing through the use of plant medicine ceremonies. In Episode 204 I sit down with my friend Joshua Dukes. Joshua and I became friends online as we both walked a similar path as first responders that ultimately left the profession because of the Covid Pandemic! After we connected, we kicked the idea of a Maui Axis deer hunt together and last weekend he and his boys guided me and Zach on an unforgettable adventure! A powerful friendship was forged over three long days hunting hard in the woods together. In today’s episode, we dive deep into hunting in Hawaii, and then also tell Joshua’s story going from a standout firefighter to being terminated over taking a stand for personal freedom during the pandemic. Joshua and his family are some of the best human beings I’ve ever met, and I am excited to forge a friendship that will undoubtedly last a lifetime! In Episode 202 I sit down with my friend and former Professor Marcus Buchecha Almeida. I trained under Buchecha from 2011-2013 and remain a teammate under the Checkmat banner to this day. We go all the back to the beginning of how Marcus found jiu jitsu and the long and arduous process of how he became an elite competitor. He went from wanting to quit jiu jitsu for having so many bad performances at competitions to becoming the most decorated jiu jitsu athlete of all time! Being part of the team and witnessing Buchecha’s meteoric rise to superstardom is something I will cherish for life. What a time to live in Southern California with Checkmat. As someone who knew Marcus before he was a blackbelt world champion, I can attest he’s still that kindhearted down to earth person I remember from 2011. I really enjoyed this reconnection. In Episode 201 I sit down with Austin Johnson and John Fontaine from North Idaho Archery. I love this story because it’s a tale of striving for something bigger and pursuing your passions. Both men are combat veterans and former police officers. They were inspired by my story of building a new career path post law enforcement and wanted to pursue their passion for archery as a viable career. They left behind the security of a paycheck and benefits and embarked into the unknown as new entrepreneurs with one mission in mind, enrich our community through our passion for archery. Law enforcement is a great profession for many as you’ll hear us discuss in this episode, but it’s important to build a path towards something new once the fire inside of you has burned out. In Episode 200 I sit down with Kirk Davis. Kirk is part of an organization titled the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Puget Sound (or CAMPS). One of CAMPS main missions is assisting veterans in the transition from active duty to civilian life by assisting them in finding employment inside of the civilian workforce within the manufacturing industry. It’s an honorable mission and a valuable resource for veterans, so I jumped at the chance to have him on the show.
