In this episode, Brian talks about the four instances where you as a leader may need to have a conversation with your employee about their engagement with the company and the buckets of questions you can ask during that conversation to get to the root of the problem.

- What is the one thing you need from your manager or leader to move closer to your personal goals?
- Do you feel like you have a clear growth path in place to reach your professional goals?
Questions to learn more about the employee’s relationship with their coworkers:
- On a scale of 1-10, how supported do you feel by other employees on your team?
- Are communications among your coworkers honest and transparent?
- If you could change one thing about the team you’re currently on, what would it be and why?
Questions to learn more about the employee’s relationship with their manager:
- On a scale of 1-10, how supported do you feel by your manager?
- Do you feel like your manager cares about your overall well-being?
- What is the one thing your manager can start or stop doing that would help you do a better job?
Questions around feedback:
- Are you satisfied with how often you get feedback from your manager?
- Does the feedback you receive at work help you grow and develop?
- If you have feedback for your manager, do you feel comfortable sharing it?
Questions around company alignment:
- Do you understand how your role contributes to the company’s mission?
- Are you confident that your organization is able to reach its objectives?
- Are the values of the company aligned with your personal values?
Questions around happiness and satisfaction:
- On a scale of 1-10, how happy are you in your day-to-day work?
- Do you feel like you have a healthy work-life balance?
- What is one thing your manager, team or leadership do to make you happier at work?
Questions around organizational culture and the workplace environment:
- Do you have all the resources you need to do your job effectively?
- How does your team’s behavior reflect your values day to day?
- What are the one thing you like the most and one thing you like the least about your organization’s culture?
