Hu: A kora reggeli órákban, Budapest épp felébredt.
En: In the early hours of the morning, Budapest was just waking up.

Hu: Szabolcs sem volt másképp, a belváros szívében, egy rozoga, patinás bérház rezgő csendjében.
En: Szabolcs was no different, in the heart of the city center, in a dilapidated, atmospheric apartment building's quiet.

Hu: Szabolcs, középkorú férj és apja, magyar-angol fordító volt.
En: Szabolcs, a middle-aged husband and father, was a Hungarian-English translator.

Hu: De nem közönséges fordítások álltak asztalán.
En: But it wasn't ordinary translations that sat on his desk.

Hu: Életébe új különös kaland körvonalazódott, magyar nyelvet kellett tanítania, méghozzá értelmetlen mondatok segítségével.
En: A new peculiar adventure began taking shape in his life, he had to teach Hungarian language using meaningless sentences.

En: The delicious smell of fresh rolls greeted his face as he stepped out of the building from the corner bakery.

En: As he made his way through the crowded lines, he felt that he was preparing for the strangest adventure of his life.

Hu: A diákja, Mona, Amerikából jött, és elszántan akart magyarul tanulni.
En: His student, Mona, had come from America and was determined to learn Hungarian.

Hu: Szabolcs próbált kitérni a feladat elől, de Mona ragaszkodott hozzá.
En: Szabolcs tried to avoid the task, but Mona insisted.

Hu: „Valami útmutatást szeretnék, ami segít az itteni életben," mondta.
En: "I want some guidance that will help me in life here," she said.

Hu: ”És a magyar humor iránti érzékem azt súgja, hogy ez a legjobb módja ennek.
En: "And my sense of Hungarian humor tells me that this is the best way."

Hu: ”Szahu, a híres magyar jellegű étteremben már várták őket.
En: They were already waiting for them at Sahú, the famous Hungarian-style restaurant.

Hu: A füstös, félig világos hely mindig ebédidőben kezdett megtelni, de most, kora reggel, majdnem üres volt.
En: The smoky, dimly lit place usually started to fill up during lunchtime, but now, early in the morning, it was almost empty.

Hu: Rendeltek.
En: They placed their orders.

Hu: "A boci a fürdőből néz ki, és ásít", kezdte Szabolcs egy főnixmadár félénkségével.
En: "The calf looks out of the bath and yawns," Szabolcs began with the timidity of a phoenix bird.

Hu: Mona felnevetett, kérte, írja le, majd hangosan felolvasott.
En: Mona burst out laughing, asking him to write it down and then she read it aloud.

Hu: Aztán megtanulta a jelentését és hasznos kontextust adtak a mondatnak.
En: Then they learned its meaning and provided useful context for the sentence.

Hu: A kínosan csendes helyiségben a felszolgálók és az egyedül érkezett idős úr a pulthoz mélyebben elmerültek a kávéjukban.
En: In the awkwardly quiet room, the waiters and the old man who had arrived alone at the counter sank deeper into their coffees.

Hu: A tanítás folytatódott – a kávé elfogyott, az étel is.
En: The teaching continued - the coffee was consumed, the food as well.

Hu: A hely lassan megtelt.
En: The place slowly filled up.

Hu: Szabolcs és Mona is beleszédültek az értelmetlenségekbe.
En: Szabolcs and Mona became dizzy with the meaninglessness.

Hu: Az idő telik.
En: Time goes by.

Hu: A nap feljön, a hold lemegy.
En: The sun rises, the moon sets.

Hu: A csillagok parádéznak az éjszakai égbolton, a Nap pedig kigyúl a napfényben.
En: The stars parade in the night sky, and the sun lights up in the sunlight.

Hu: A diák tanul, a tanár tanít.
En: The student learns, the teacher teaches.

Hu: Az élet, mint egy folyó, hozza a változásokat.
En: Life, like a river, brings changes.

Hu: Egy nap Mona megállapította, hogy elég.
En: One day, Mona decided it was enough.

Hu: Eleinte Szabolcs meglepődött, aztán mosolyogni kezdett.
En: At first, Szabolcs was surprised, then he started smiling.

En: And Mona will never forget how she learned Hungarian with the help of meaningless sentences.

En: As always, Szabolcs left the day at the corner bakery.

Hu: A finom kifli szagával a levegőben pedig az élet folytatódott, egy Budapest feletti napkelte társaságában.
En: With the smell of delicious rolls in the air, life continued, in the company of a sunrise above Budapest.
