Story Transcript:

En: The sun shone brightly in the blue sky of Madrid, seeping through and playing with the leaves of the trees in the Plaza Mayor. There, in the shade of the wooden tables of Leo's Bar, was Juan, a curious and cheerful boy.

En: For Juan, Madrid was a palette full of new colors and flavors. He had come from a small town in the Sierra to study. Madrid dazzled him with its lights and bustle, so much so that it sometimes played unexpected pranks on him. Today, one of them would happen.

En: He slid up to the bar counter, and the daily menu highlighted the word "snails." Juan, thinking they were some kind of crispy appetizers, ordered them with an excited laugh.

En: "Snails?" exclaimed Leo, the bar owner, with a playful smile. "You're brave, Juan!"

En: Shortly after, Leo returned with a steaming plate full of... snails. But not as Juan thought, round and crispy appetizers. They were real snails, with their shells and all. The surprise on Juan's face was priceless.

En: Instantly, a contagious chuckle among the bar's patrons erupted, like an echo of his mistake. Juan, embarrassed, looked at the snails, then at Leo and everyone in the bar.

En: What would Juan do now? His cheeks were burning, but he decided to turn that embarrassing moment into something memorable. "So this is Madrid…" he muttered to himself, smiling.

En: He grabbed a fork, pierced a snail, and, taking a deep breath, brought it to his mouth. The whole bar held its breath, expectant.

En: To his surprise, he liked it. It wasn't what he expected, but it was tasty. A smile spread across his face, and the entire bar burst into applause. That day, Juan not only discovered a new flavor, but he also won over the folks in the bar with his bravery and good humor.

En: From then on, Juan was more known, respected, and even loved in the bar and its surroundings. With his mistake and his humorous reaction, he gave his new city an anecdote to remember and smile about.

En: Years later, Juan would tell new students in Madrid to always order snails on their first day. Not just as a local delicacy, but as a welcome full of surprises and laughter in this great city.
