Story Transcript:

En: It was an extraordinary, cool Sunday afternoon in Stockholm.

En: Lars, a 35-year-old man, had decided to visit the enormous Ikea department store to buy a new sofa.

En: He was tired of his old one and really wanted something new.

Sv: Lars flög ner för E4:an i sin gamla Volvo.
En: Lars flew down the E4 highway in his old Volvo.

En: The Ikea sign rose like a blue-and-yellow pitch-dark sea in the distance.

En: Soon, he was at the store's crowded parking lot and quickly found a spot.

Sv: Med en shoppinglista i handen gick Lars in varuhuset.
En: With a shopping list in hand, Lars entered the store.

En: He followed the white arrows in the organized Ikea labyrinth.

En: Somewhere between the lighting department and kitchen furnishings, however, he lost his way.

Sv: Allt såg likadant ut.
En: Everything looked the same.

En: Lars walked around and around, trying to find his way back.

Sv: Han förbi köksskåp, lådor, sängar och bord.
En: He passed kitchen cabinets, drawers, beds, and tables.

Sv: Allt bländade honom.
En: Everything dazzled him.

En: Somehow, he ended up in a garden with fake flowers.

Sv: Han hittade inte ut.
En: He couldn't find his way out.

En: Although he was lost, Lars couldn't resist certain furniture pieces.

En: He began picking up things he liked.

Sv: En röd köksstol.
En: A red kitchen chair.

Sv: Ett soffbord i ek.
En: An oak coffee table.

Sv: En spegel med vacker ram.
En: A mirror with a beautiful frame.

Sv: Snart var hans vagn full.
En: Soon, his cart was full.

En: Everything except the sofa he came for.

En: Hours passed, and Lars still couldn't find the sofa section.

En: He was tired, hungry, and starting to get frustrated.

En: But finally, almost in despair, he found the gingerbread cookie he needed.

Sv: En av de anställda pekade rätt.
En: One of the employees pointed in the right direction.

En: He finally bought his sofa, after much back and forth.

En: And he found his way out of the huge store.

Sv: Hemma packade han ut alla sina köp.
En: At home, he unpacked all his purchases.

Sv: Den röda köksstolen.
En: The red kitchen chair.

Sv: Ekbordet.
En: The oak table.

Sv: Den vackra spegeln.
En: The beautiful mirror.

En: But there, amidst all his new belongings, the sofa he came for was missing.

Sv: Han hade glömt den i kassan.
En: He had forgotten it at the checkout.

En: All this trouble and yet no sofa.

En: So, that's the story of Lars, the man who got lost in Ikea and bought everything else but what he came for.

Sv: Ändå, dagen var inte helt förlorad.
En: However, the day was not completely lost.

En: After all, he didn't really need a new sofa.

Sv: Hans gamla soffa var ganska bekväm.
En: His old one was quite comfortable.

En: He sat down, smiled, and decided to actually appreciate his old sofa.

En: After all, his home now feels more like a home with all his new things.

En: So yes, it was a strange day for Lars.

En: But still, it was somehow a good day.

En: Sometimes, you don't find what you came for, but end up with things you love anyway.

En: And that's exactly what Lars did that Sunday in Stockholm.
