Ever felt an intense feeling of shame when someone is upset with you?
Well... I've had a couple of situations happen recently.
One with my wife and one with a close friend of mine - where I experienced feelings of both shame & anxiety, after making a mistake.
My brain jumped to thoughts like:
'I'm not good enough'
'I'm a bad friend'
I even started catastrophising to...
'What if my friend doesn't forgive me?'
'What if the whole friendship group falls out with me over this?'
So today, I'm walking you through exactly how I coached myself to the other side of it.
And how you can too!
Mentioned in the episode:
Today I'm answering a question from a listener.
"My boyfriend of 1.5 years and I started out having an open relationship. Turned out that this wasn't a good fit for me due to my insecurities and brought on anxiety that was unmanageable.
"Now my boyfriend has agreed to be in a monogamous relationship with me. I find my self feeling "guilty" that he is now in a different style of relationship than what he initially wanted, and worried that he will inevitably change his mind and we will have to break up.
"Any advice to how to deal with this anxiety and guilt?"
Mentioned in the episode:
Is your fear of losing them pushing them away?
Are you feeling so anxious that it’s getting in between you and your partner - or maybe you and your friends - when all you want is to feel closer to them?
In today’s episode, I’m talking about 5 ways a fear of losing someone actually pushes the people we love away.
And I’m offering you practical ways to start to challenge these subconscious patterns, and create connection with them instead.
Mentioned in the episode:
Don’t like thirst trap pictures on Instagram.
Don’t reply if your ex messages you.
Don’t go for drinks with your female co-worker, unless other people are going.
Sometimes we set rules for our partners as a way to avoid or manage our own fears and anxieties. Other times, we really don’t want to be okay with a certain kind of behaviour.
In this episode, I help you get better at making that judgement call - and manage your mind in the face of any behaviour in your relationship.
Mentioned in this episode:
Today I’m answering real-life questions from listeners on their real-life relationship problems.
Including:
Unless you’re the person that wrote it - you likely aren’t in either of those exact situations. That’s okay!
Don’t skip the episode - because the way I coach on these topics is likely to help you see your own relationship mind drama in a new way, and apply the teachings to your own unique situations.
Mentioned in the episode:
Do you find yourself getting a little too attached too quickly in dating?
Maybe you’ve met the person twice, but find your mood is completely dependant on whether they’ve replied to your message yet.
Or maybe you feel like dating is a rollercoaster, and even when you didn’t really know the person - the rejection feels unbearable.
If so, this episode is for you!
I’m talking about why people get so attached in early dating, the signs to look out for, and what to do to stop this pattern and date more securely instead.
Mentioned in the episode:
Do you ever worry that you’re just not lovable?
When someone rejects you, or if someone has cheated, left, or rejected you in the past - does your brain jump to: I’m not good enough. There’s something wrong with me?
If so - this episode is for you.
We’re talking about what it really means to be lovable, and why how much someone loves you actually has nothing to do with you as a person.
Mentioned in the episode:
Protect your peace, it’s their job to meet your needs, heal before you get into a relationship…
The online space is LOUD and full of well-intended relationship advice.
But of course - the most common advice can sometimes be a little black-or-white - when in reality, relationships are filled with shades of grey.
So we’re going to discuss more nuanced approaches to common relationship advice in today’s episode.
Mentioned in the episode:
Do you ask your partner for reassurance multiple times a week?
Or find yourself asking for reassurance on the same topic over and over and the anxiety still popping back up, despite what they say?
Has your partner said they’re tired of reassuring you, and do you wonder how much reassurance is okay to ask for?
If so, this episode is for you! I’m to talk about reassurance seeking, what it looks like in a healthy relationship, and most importantly - how to start reassuring yourself.
Mentioned in the episode:
Does the thought of your partner around other attractive women (or men) make you panic?
Do you feel jealous when they talk about their co-workers, worried that they find them hot?
Or do you feel on edge when they’re out in bars, afraid they’ll find other people attractive?
If so - this episode is for YOU. I’m talking about why your brain likely sees attractive people as threats, and more importantly - how to train it not to.
