Story Transcript:

Fr: L'air était frais sur Paris ce jour-là.
En: The air was fresh in Paris that day.

Fr: Pierre, un grand homme aux cheveux noirs, avait quitté sa petite maison de province pour visiter cette ville fabuleuse.
En: Pierre, a tall man with black hair, had left his small house in the countryside to visit this fabulous city.

Fr: Ses yeux étaient brillants devant les étals du marché animé, les bâtiments historiques et les parisiens chics.
En: His eyes were shining as he took in the bustling market stalls, the historic buildings, and the chic Parisians.

Fr: "C'est comme dans les films!
En: "It's like something out of the movies!"

Fr: ", pensait-il.
En: he thought.

Fr: Au déjeuner, Pierre s'est trouvé dans un petit café près du musée du Louvre.
En: At lunchtime, Pierre found himself in a small café near the Louvre Museum.

Fr: Il ne savait pas trop que choisir sur le menu.
En: He wasn't sure what to choose from the menu.

Fr: Il a vu un mot français qu'il ne connaissait pas : "escargots".
En: He saw a French word he didn't know: "escargots."

Fr: Pierre pensait que c'était quelque chose de sucré, comme un croissant ou une tarte.
En: Pierre thought it was something sweet, like a croissant or a tart.

Fr: "Je vais prendre les escargots, s'il vous plaît", a-t-il demandé au serveur.
En: "I'll have the escargots, please," he asked the waiter.

Fr: Quand le serveur est revenu, il a mis un plateau devant Pierre.
En: When the waiter returned, he placed a tray in front of Pierre.

Fr: Sur ce plateau, il y avait six petits trous.
En: On this tray were six small holes.

Fr: Dans chaque trou, un petit escargot se cachait.
En: In each hole, a little snail was hiding.

Fr: Les yeux de Pierre se sont écarquillés.
En: Pierre's eyes widened.

Fr: "Oh non, je pensais que c'était du sucre, pas des insectes!
En: "Oh no, I thought it was sugar, not insects!"

Fr: " pensa Pierre.
En: thought Pierre.

Fr: Mais Pierre était un homme brave.
En: But Pierre was a brave man.

Fr: Il a décidé d'essayer.
En: He decided to give it a try.

Fr: Il a pris le petit four qui était avec le plateau.
En: He took the small fork that came with the tray.

Fr: Il a piqué un escargot et l'a mis dans sa bouche.
En: He picked up a snail and put it in his mouth.

Fr: A sa grande surprise, c'était délicieux!
En: To his great surprise, it was delicious!

Fr: Pierre sourit.
En: Pierre smiled.

Fr: Il a trouvé une nouvelle nourriture à aimer.
En: He had found a new food to love.

Fr: Toute la journée, Pierre a pensé aux escargots.
En: All day, Pierre thought about the escargots.

Fr: Il était si heureux de son accident!
En: He was so happy about his discovery!

Fr: Il est même allé acheter des escargots pour les ramener à la maison.
En: He even bought some escargots to take home.

Fr: Il avait hâte de raconter son voyage à Paris à ses amis et à sa famille.
En: He couldn't wait to tell his friends and family about his trip to Paris.

Fr: Lorsque Pierre est rentré chez lui, il fut accueilli par des sourires curieux.
En: When Pierre returned home, he was greeted with curious smiles.

Fr: "Alors, qu'as-tu ramené de Paris?
En: "So, what did you bring back from Paris?"

Fr: " demandèrent-ils.
En: they asked.

Fr: Avec un grand sourire, Pierre a ouvert son sac.
En: With a big smile, Pierre opened his bag.

Fr: "J'ai ramené des escargots!
En: "I brought back some escargots!"

Fr: " a-t-il annoncé.
En: he announced.

Fr: Et ainsi se termine l'histoire de la découverte délicieuse de Pierre.
En: And so ends the story of Pierre's delightful discovery.

Fr: Il avait appris une leçon importante : ne pas juger un livre par sa couverture, ou un escargot par sa coquille.
En: He had learned an important lesson: not to judge a book by its cover, or a snail by its shell.

Fr: Il a aussi appris qu'il aimait vraiment Paris, même ses parties inattendues.
En: He also learned that he really loved Paris, even its unexpected parts.
