Story Transcript:

Ja: 地域のコミュニティセンターは、投票を待つ人々で賑わっていた。
En: The local community center was bustling with people waiting to vote.

Ja: 窓から差し込む明るい陽射しが夏の訪れを予感させる。
En: The bright sunlight streaming through the windows hinted at the arrival of summer.

Ja: ポスターやバナーが壁に貼られ、市民参加を促している。
En: Posters and banners were stuck to the walls, encouraging civic participation.

Ja: そして、その中に姉のユキと弟のヒロシが立っていた。
En: Among the crowd stood the sister, Yuki, and the brother, Hiroshi.

Ja: 「ねえ、今日は大事な話し合いだから」とユキはふと言った。
En: "Hey, today's discussion is important," Yuki suddenly remarked.

Ja: 彼女は家族のために実用的な視点を持つ、人一倍責任感の強い姉である。
En: She was a sister with a practical perspective for the sake of the family, possessing a stronger sense of responsibility than most.

Ja: 「家を売るって、やっぱり賛成できないんだ」とヒロシが言い返す。

En: He was honest with his emotions, emotionally treasuring the house.

Ja: 「でも、お父さんとお母さんが決めたことだし、私たちも賛成するべきじゃない？」とユキは、落ち着いた声で諭す。
En: "But it's what Mom and Dad decided, so shouldn't we agree too?" Yuki reasoned in a calm voice.

Ja: 「将来のためにも、現実的な選択じゃないかな。」
En: "Isn't it a realistic choice for the future?"

Ja: 列が前に進むにつれて、ヒロシは考え込むように口を閉じた。
En: As the line moved forward, Hiroshi closed his mouth thoughtfully.

Ja: 「わかってる。でも、思い出がたくさん詰まってる家だよ」と彼は静かに言った。
En: "I understand, but it's a house full of memories," he said quietly.

Ja: ユキもまた、家を渡すことに躊躇がないわけではなかった。
En: Yuki also wasn't entirely without hesitation about handing over the house.

Ja: 「実は、私もあの家を恋しく思うことがある。
En: "Actually, I do feel nostalgic about that house.

Ja: ねえ、覚えてる？
En: Hey, do you remember?

Ja: あの庭でピクニックしたこと、桜の木の下で。”と彼女は目を細め、懐かしい記憶を話し出した。
En: Those picnics in the garden, under the sakura tree," she said, narrowing her eyes as she began to recount the fond memories.

Ja: ヒロシは驚いた。
En: Hiroshi was surprised.

Ja: 「ユキがそんなこと言うなんて…」彼は姉の話に耳を傾け、共感していることを感じた。
En: "I didn't expect you to say that..." He listened to his sister's story, feeling a sense of empathy.

Ja: 「でも、それでも？」
En: "But even so?"

Ja: それでも、ユキは「私も家のことを忘れることはできないけど、今が家族全体にとって大事な時期だから、もう少し考えたほうがいいと思う」と彼を優しく説得する。
En: Even so, Yuki gently persuaded him, "I can't forget about the house either, but since it's an important time for the whole family now, I think we should consider it a bit more."

Ja: ヒロシは黙りこくる。
En: Hiroshi fell silent.

Ja: そして、しばらく考えた後、頷いた。
En: After thinking for some time, he nodded.

Ja: 「お姉ちゃんがそう言うなら、もう少し考える時間を持とう」と言い、自分の感情と思慮を同時に抱くことを初めて認識した。
En: "If you say so, onee-chan, let's take more time to think," he said, realizing for the first time the simultaneous embrace of his emotions and thoughtfulness.
