Story Transcript:

Ja: 東京の心にある喧騒だけが静まった裏通り、そこには「すし桜」という小さな寿司屋がありました。主人公のゆきは、まだ東京に慣れていない新しい市民で、日本語で寿司を注文するのが初めての経験でした。
En: In a quiet backstreet where the hustle and bustle of Tokyo fades away, there was a small sushi restaurant called "Sushi Sakura." The protagonist, Yuki, was a new resident still unfamiliar with Tokyo, and ordering sushi in Japanese was a completely new experience for her.

Ja: 「すみません、寿司を一つください」とゆきはちょっと不安げに言いました。寿司職人はにっこりと微笑みながら、鮮やかに輝くネタを丁寧に寿司にのせました。いざ注文が終わり、皿が目の前に届くと、彼女の眼はキラキラと輝きました。その初めて見る美しい寿司に心躍らされ、彼女は一つを取り上げ、口に運びました。
En: "Excuse me, may I have one sushi, please?" Yuki said somewhat anxiously. The sushi chef smiled warmly and carefully placed vibrant toppings on the sushi. Once the order was complete and the plate arrived in front of her, her eyes sparkled with excitement. Enthralled by the beauty of the sushi she was seeing for the first time, she picked one up and brought it to her mouth.

Ja: しかし、その瞬間！彼女の舌は猛烈なワサビの味で攻撃されました。「あ、あっつー！」ゆきは頬を膨らませ、顔を赤く染めながら給水口に駆け寄りました。その間騒然となる店内、職人の困った顔、そのすべてをゆきは見逃しました。
En: However, in that moment! Her tongue was fiercely attacked by the intense taste of wasabi. "Ah, spicy!" Yuki pouted her cheeks, her face flushed, and hurried to the water dispenser. Amidst the chaos in the restaurant, the puzzled expression of the chef, Yuki missed it all.

Ja: そんな彼女を見て、寿司職人はほっとした笑顔を浮かべました。「初めてのワサビは痛いよな」と職人はゆっくりと口にしました。そして、彼は緑色の小さな山から一つを取り、それを新たに握った寿司の上にのせました。「これはワサビですよ、お気をつけて」と言いながら、ゆきの目の前にその寿司を差し出しました。
En: Seeing her like this, the sushi chef smiled with relief. "The first encounter with wasabi can be painful, right?" the chef slowly said. He then took a small green mound and placed it on top of a freshly made sushi. "This is wasabi, please be careful," he said as he offered the sushi to Yuki.

Ja: ゆきは再び寿司を眺め、そして慎重に一口食べました。ピリッとしたワサビの辛み、しかし、それが融合するごはんとネタの優しい味。改めてその美味しさに気付いた彼女は、ワサビとの最初のバトルにもかかわらず笑顔を見せました。
En: Yuki looked at the sushi again, and then cautiously took a bite. The sharp spiciness of wasabi, yet the gentle taste that melded with the rice and topping. Realizing the deliciousness once again, despite the initial battle with wasabi, she smiled.

En: And so, Yuki had her first sushi experience and became a regular at "Sushi Sakura" from that day on. The battles with wasabi continued almost every time, but the new discoveries in flavors it brought became the spice of her life in Tokyo.
