Story Transcript:

Hu: János, húszezer forintos élelmiszercsomaggal a karjaiban, megállt a pénztár előtt.
En: János stood in front of the cash register with a bag of groceries worth twenty thousand forints in his arms.

Hu: Bepakolta a zöldségeket, a tejtermékeket és néhány friss pékáru is a szalagra.
En: He loaded the vegetables, dairy products, and some fresh bakery goods onto the conveyor belt.

Hu: Az idős pénztárosasszony mosolygott rá, mire ő is viszonozta a mosolyt.
En: The elderly cashier smiled at him, and he returned the smile.

Hu: A hangos szkenner zajtalanul pittyent a zöldségeknél, majd sziszegve a üveg tejfölnél.
En: The loud scanner beeped silently as it scanned the vegetables, then hissed as it scanned the glass of sour cream.

Hu: Mikor meghallotta az utolsó csipogást, elégedetten nyúlt a pénztárcájába.
En: When he heard the last beep, he reached into his wallet satisfied.

Hu: Kicsit fáradt volt, hisz csak most ért haza a városközponti könyvtárból, ahol hosszú órákig böngészett az új könyvek között.
En: He was a bit tired as he had just returned from the central library in the city center, where he had browsed through the new books for hours.

Hu: Az utolsó tétel, három zsemlének az ára is felvillant a kijelzőn.
En: The price for the last item, three rolls, flashed on the display.

Hu: Ahogy emelte a kezét fizetés céljából, valami furcsa érintette meg.
En: As he raised his hand to pay, something strange touched him.

Hu: "Az a könyvtári kártya, uram," szólalt meg az idős pénztárosasszony halkan.
En: "That's your library card, sir," the elderly cashier whispered.

Hu: János arca elfehéredett, majd lángvörös lett, amikor észrevette, hogy emberi tévedésből tévesen a könyvtári kártyáját adta a pénzé helyett.
En: János's face turned pale, then bright red when he realized that, due to a human error, he had mistakenly given his library card instead of his money.

Hu: A pult mögötti sorban felhangzott néhány nevetés, ami még inkább vörösre festette János arcát.
En: Laughter erupted from the line behind the counter, which made János's face even redder.

Hu: Ha a föld nyelte volna el, nem lett volna elég gyors számára.
En: If the ground could have swallowed him up, it wouldn't have been quick enough for him.

Hu: De mire megtalálta a pénztárcáját, a mögötte álló hölgy egyszerűen előrelépett és kinyújtotta a kártyáját a könyvtári kártya helyett.
En: But by the time he found his wallet, the lady standing behind him simply stepped forward and handed him her card instead of the library card.

Hu: "Az én kezelésem," mondta a hölgy mosolygva.
En: "It's on me," the lady said with a smile.

Hu: János hálásan köszönte meg a segítséget, majd elpirulva, de mégis boldogan indult haza.
En: János gratefully thanked her for the help, then blushing but still happy, he headed home.

Hu: Aznap este azonban bár hűvös volt a levegő, Budapest utcái melegebbnek és barátságosabbnak tűntek számára.
En: However, that evening, even though the air was cool, the streets of Budapest seemed warmer and friendlier to him.

Hu: Az eset után János mindig duplán ellenőrizte zsebeit, mielőtt bármit is fizetett.
En: After the incident, János always double-checked his pockets before paying for anything.

Hu: Még ha néha csúfosan bukott is el, ott voltak az emberek - a budapestiek -, akik mindig segítettek és soha nem hagyták magára.
En: Even if he occasionally failed embarrassingly, there were always people - the people of Budapest - who always helped and never left him alone.

Hu: Így élt János, a városon belül, s bár néha összezavarodott, mindig volt, aki kiigazította.
En: This was how János lived, within the city, and although he sometimes got confused, there was always someone to set him straight.

Hu: Ez volt az ő kis világa, ahol mindent és mindenkinek megvolt a helye és a szerepe.
En: This was his little world, where everything and everyone had their place and role.
