Story Transcript:

Es: Juan estaba muy emocionado por su primera fiesta mexicana.
En: Juan was very excited for his first Mexican party.

Es: Había oído hablar de los colores brillantes, la música enérgica y la comida deliciosa, así que no podía esperar a probar todo.
En: I had heard about the bright colors, energetic music, and delicious food, so I couldn't wait to try everything.

Es: Cuando llegó a la fiesta, la música estaba en su punto máximo.
En: When he arrived at the party, the music was at its peak.

Es: Juan se sintió inmediatamente en casa.
En: Juan felt immediately at home.

En: The object appeared colorful and filled with elegantly curving colored lines.

En: Juan ran over, pulling out his piñata stick, ready to pop it open.

Es: Pero cuando llegó allí, su atención se desvió al ver una multitud de personas riéndose.
En: But when he got there, his attention was diverted as he saw a crowd of laughing people.

Es: Juan no comprendió y, cuando se dio cuenta, se dio cuenta de que había estado a punto de darle con su palo a un cactus, en lugar de una piñata.
En: Juan did not understand and, when he did, he realized that he had been about to hit a cactus with his stick, instead of a piñata.

En: He asked around and discovered that cacti were an important part of Mexican culture.

En: They were used to make medicine and food, as well as being a kind of symbol of strength and survival.

Es: Después de esa experiencia, Juan se propuso entender mejor la cultura y los significados detrás de todo lo que veía.
En: After that experience, Juan set out to better understand the culture and the meanings behind everything he saw.

Es: Empezó a apreciar plenamente los mundos de la música, la comida y la celebración que le rodeaban en su nuevo hogar.
En: He began to fully appreciate the worlds of music, food, and celebration that surrounded him in his new home.

En: And finally, one day, when he saw the same cactus again, Juan looked at it with a new look.
