Before we talk about today's episode of the podcast, we want to say a huge thank you to our members in the Any Given Runday Run Club that continue to run and push each other each and every week on the group. This episode serves as an appreciation episode to you guys.
This past weekend was the 5k PB attempt for a lot of our running group members. Seán talks about his 5k PB attempt and how anything can happen on 'Any Given Race Day.'
The Seán and Eric then talk about the advice they have received from others in the running group as well as how they have progressed over the last few weeks and how great it was to see their journey and results over the weekend.
The lads talk about their struggles and being humbled doing Yoga sessions with Dani in the group, especially with the strength training element brought into the Yoga session this past week. Thanks, once again, to Dani for the last 4 weeks of Yoga training!
What's next? With the country opening up more now with gyms, pubs, hairdressers etc you may think it's time to wind down this social distancing running club? In this week's episode, Seán and Eric look to the Any Given Runday Running CLub for motivation for the podcast as Reuben posts in the group about getting up at 4:30 am to run a marathon through the mountains.
Reuben has been a member of the running group from day 1 and has helped motivate the group by documenting his progress. In this podcast, he talks about:
- Why he did he run a marathon distance through the mountains this past Saturday
- His first experience with the Dublin Marathon (after a horrific injury) that almost put him off running forever
- The importance of being around like-minded people when getting involved with running
- His previous running mistakes and what advice he would give to people setting out to run more now
- Why he decided to compete in a Half Ironman
- The welcoming community of triathlons after he competed in his first one.
- His training journey to his first Half Ironman and the lofty goals he set
- His future goals, one of which Eric has committed to do with him in the future.
This podcast episode, like the running group its self, is all about motivating each other to just do it and not always be concerned with the numbers, as long as you are pushing yourself.

We continue the "Lawless Files" as Eric interviews Rachel Farrell on her journey from meeting Eric at Lifesaving in college to trying out triathlons and leading up to the Half Ironman World Championships in Nice and more.
Rachel talks about how, when she had met Eric in college, she never ran or did any cycling. She tried her first triathlon a few years ago in Athone and fell in love with the sport.
From there, Rachel joined a triathlon club and, despite her main goal being to lose weight, she signed up for an Olympic distance triathlon and felt like she was going to get sick at the end of it. Rachel decided to sign up for a half Ironman to help her motivation to train over the winter months. She finished second in her age category and was told that she qualified for the World Championships! She didn't even know what that was or that she could qualify in that race!
From there, Rachel takes us through what it was like to compete in the World Championships, her triathlons in Ireland and why she had to the half Ironman over here again, how she views her training as a lifestyle now, the support she has gotten and a message to everyone in our running group pushing themselves for a 5k Challenge!
Once you listen to Rachel's episode, you're going to be motivated to push yourself with your own goals. And while there is no immediate races to sign up to, you can get involved in our Running group where we are building towards a 5k PB (or your first 5k) at the end of June.

A short solo episode from Seán on this one. With the Dublin Marathon cancelled this year, it's really thrown a spanner into the works for what this podcast was meant to be all about.
There are far worse things going on so we're not going to cry about it. But we are going to adapt.
Seán talks about the initial plans and the long term future for the Any Given Runday Podcast as well as plans that the group have.
Then he talks about adding direction to the Any Given Runday Run Club and how it was initially only a short term project.
So, with the lack of races in 2020, we're going to set our own goals for the year. Starting with a 5K Challenge to get a PB. We've got 5 weeks to train for it, with a Challenge Day set for the end of June to attempt a PB.

After recording an episode of the Any Given Runday Podcast, unknown to the rest of the team (and accidentally), Seán lets the recording continue.
This leads to an unscripted, unedited, very open and honest conversation about all things running.
From Eric's sweet tooth being a main motivator behind running to Aaron's struggles with running and real reasons for buying the Garmin watch along with Conor's heart rate when pushing himself to a sub 20 minute 5k, it's a real eye-opener of an episode that we hope you enjoy.
We will publish the intended episode on running injuries and prevention in the near future along with a detailed account of Conor's intervals pushing towards the sub 20 minute 5k.
With no marathons or runs insight, the lads are setting weekly goals while adhering to social distancing first and foremost. With no running groups or races, it can be hard to stay motivated. Which is why they have set up a Facebook group and weekly run targets: 5k Mondays, Interval Wednesdays and Long Run Weekends. You can get involved too by clicking on the link below:
