After getting the itch for interviewing last week, we continue a mini-series of Eric interviewing people as he interviews another friend and running influence from his profession, Tom Dixon.
Eric and Tom have competed in a lot of endurance events over their past 4 year friendship and have helped push each other to reach new heights in their running goals.
In this episode, they talk about:
- Tom's unique introduction to endurance training
- How he built up his endurance from struggling to do a 2.2k to a 38 minute 10k
- Finding ways to run on days you feel very unmotivated to
- From GAA to Sea to Summit and Glendalough Adventure Races
- The "gulity confession" behind Eric and Tom doing their first Triathlon on the last June Bank Holiday
The lads spend the last 10 minutes talking about diets with endurance running and what Tom finds works for him before Eric hinting at a Half Ironman challenge with Tom in the next few weeks.

After Aaron getting a Garmin watch last week, Seán sets to find out what the big deal is about them. We also talk about the keys to good running form for long distances and how they differ to shorter sprints.
Aaron talks about why he decided now was the time to get a Garmin watch and all the features it has (this podcast is obviously not sponsored by Garmin btw!) [0:45]
After hearing about all the features, Sean asks about Garmon Coach and why Eric has decided to use that for planning to do a 1:32 Half Marathon Training plan [6:30]
And finally on Garmin, Seán talks to Conor about the different types of Garmin watches as his watch is different to Eric and Aaron's. [13:15]
Seán switches gears and talks about running form, including foot strikes and steps per minute and the lads weigh in on whether it has an impact on their training [18:00]
Following a poll on the Instagram group on whether there will be running events in 2020, the lads have a brief discussion on whether they see that happening [27:20]
With no marathons or runs insight, the lads are setting weekly goals while adhering to social distancing first and foremost. With no running groups or races, it can be hard to stay motivated. Which is why they have set up a Facebook group and weekly run targets: 5k Mondays, Interval Wednesdays and Long Run Weekends. You can get involved too by clicking on the link below:

Very special episode of the Any Given Runday Podcast as Eric interviews one of his inspirations, Odhran Murphy (@murphyodhran on Instagram), as Odhran discusses how he came up with the idea to run a 'Marathon in the Estate' (129 laps of his estate btw!!).
In this episode he also talks about why he has chosen Childline (@ispcc_childline) to raise funds, his training, flying upside down with Eric, the three-week marathon plan and what had him up at night carefully listening to every word Ryan Tubridy said on the Late Late Show and much more.
From @murphyodhran Instagram page: "I've decided to run a marathon - around the green at the front of the estate here in Ard na gCuan - in 3 weeks time, on Sunday 3rd May. 26.2 miles = 129 laps of the green! I'm going to use the opportunity to raise funds for @ispcc_childline - one of Ireland's essential charities, whose workload is hugely increased at this time. Unfortunately, home isn't a safe place for every child in this country.
I know lots of people are out of work, or have had huge pay cuts etc, so obviously, there's absolutely no pressure on anybody at all to donate anything. But if you can, maybe share the link in a WhatsApp group, or share this post with your friends. Any and all help would be much appreciated."
We know you're going to love this episode. Be sure to help Odhran out and go to his Go Fund Me page below to donate:

And best of luck this Sunday, Odhran!

Instead of running the Madrid Marathon on the day of recording, the lads are connected through Zoom to talk about exercises and prep before runs and how they prepared in the final few hours before the Dublin City Marathon last October
After feeling it in the legs from his last couple of runs, Aaron asks the lads for advice and how they prepare for their runs and the lads give their various input [1:45]
Seán reminds the lads that, at the time of recording they should have been running in the Madrid Marathon and the lads talk about how their training has changed since it got cancelled [8:30]
Going back to last October, before the Dublin City Marathon, the lads, particularly Seán talk about their journey and mistakes in the last 24 hours leading up to the marathon [10:35]
Aaron gets convinced to get involved in another marathon [19:45]
Seán talks about some of the benefits he has gotten from other members of the Any Given Runday Running Group, including why he changed his interval runs from 1k to 400m [20:35]

In this episode of the Any Given Runday Podcast, Seán & Eric talk about their contrasting 10 mile runs and different goals with them while Conor gets something off his chest on the runs he sees online and Aaron talks consistency as time starts to run out on the Hare & Bear Challenge
Seán and Eric's 10 mile runs in a study in contrast, just like Rocky & Drago's training, according to Seán [1:15]
While Eric is continuing to base his long run pace off his Heart Rate rather than how fast he could potentially go and how it was different to Seán's 10 mile run [2:20]
Seán talks about setting out with a purpose for each run and how each run may not always be how quickly you do it. Running Intensity is not the same as Running Speed. [5:20]
How to use Intervals to break the Sub 20 min goal (or any running goal) [7:15]
The trick to how your Heart Rate can determine whether you need to take a rest day or take it easy on a particular day [9:45]
The importance of consistency... and checking in with how Aaron is getting on [11:00]
Conor's inching closer to the sub 20 min 5k [12:40]
"Nominate 5, Run 5 and Donate 5"... plus what's "grinding Conor's gears" with the increase in the runs he sees online. [16:15]
Eric talks about his instructor, Odhran, who decided to make the most of "Staying at home", by running a Marathon around the green in his Estate. 26.2 miles - 129 laps of the green, on Sunday May 3rd. He would love our support to raise as much money as possible for Childline during this very tough time. Home, unfortunately, is not a safe place for all children. [20:00]

Seán's big complaint with Eric's run and how he could have beaten the sub 20 min mark today [1:40]
Eric breaks down his runs over the past few weeks to break the sub 20 min mark [3:05]

Aaron responds with his running progress as Eric offers for tips to help get him back on track [5:50]
The difference between running in the heat and rain, and how it affects you mentally [9:00]

Season 1 of the Any Given Runday podcast did not end how we wanted it to. In today's episode, the lads talk about how season 2 came to be!

In today's episode:
The lads talk about how their running and training has been affected by the events of the past week [0:55]
While the first season of the Any Given Runday Podcast did not end the way they wanted it to, the lads talk about one thing they have taken from the podcasts that they learned and applied it to their own training
How they came to the conclusion to set up a Facebook community group for running and why they are setting the weekly challenges for everyone, including themselves. [13:05]
The most important thing with the challenges is that it's you against you. It is there for some accountability for yourselves to get a run in and see how you get on. It can be hard to get motivated in these times but just getting out of the house, while following the social distancing protocols and getting a run in can be great for your physical and mental health.
You don't have to get a 5k in on Monday if you feel you can't do 5k. Even 2k or 3k to start and build from there!

The episode was recorded before the announcement that the Madrid Marathon has been postponed until November.
With that in mind, Seán gives an update on the future of the Any Given Runday podcast as we end our first season on an anti-climatic note.
For there, enjoy a Corona free episode of the podcast. Thank you for listening. It has been a great journey seeing this podcast grow over the last 11 weeks and, hopefully, it is not the end but a little bump in the road.
After last week's treadmill talk, Seán asks the group how they keep themselves entertained on a run [2:30]
Using headphones during a marathon and the atmosphere of the Dublin City Marathon [5:00]
Thoughts on Audible books and podcasts when running [7:20]
What are on the lads' music playlists when running? [8:30]
What Aaron listens to while running that completely surprises everyone else [11:45]
Seán's HUGE problem with Spotify and how his housemates one-upped him on a run [12:45]
Seán switches gears and asks the lads their opinion on the Nike Vaporfly runners and whether they consider the shoes advanced technology in running or cheating. A debate on the matter ensues [14:50]
