It: Giulia camminava lentamente lungo le strette stradine, cercando di sfuggire all’occhio vigile dei genitori.
En: Giulia walked slowly along the narrow streets, trying to avoid her parents' watchful eyes.

En: They only thought about her future, her success.

It: Giulia voleva altro.

En: She wanted to live her life, make her own choices, like Matteo.

It: Matteo era appena tornato da un anno di studi all'estero.
En: Matteo had just returned from a year of studying abroad.

It: Era un'anima libera, sempre in viaggio, sempre alla scoperta.
En: He was a free spirit, always traveling, always discovering.

It: Giulia lo ammirava.
En: Giulia admired him.

It: I loro genitori no.
En: Their parents did not.

En: They said Matteo was irresponsible, that he was wasting his life.

It: Giulia pensava che Matteo stava vivendo intensamente.
En: Giulia thought Matteo was living intensely.

En: The sunset painted the sea orange as Giulia and Matteo sat on a bench by the sea.

It: "Matteo," iniziò Giulia, "come fai a vivere così?"
En: "Matteo," Giulia began, "how do you manage to live like this?"

It: Matteo le sorrise.
En: Matteo smiled at her.

It: "Seguo il mio cuore. Faccio quello che mi rende felice."
En: "I follow my heart. I do what makes me happy."

It: "Ma i nostri genitori…" Giulia sospirò. "Loro non capiscono. Hanno già deciso tutto per me."
En: "But our parents..." Giulia sighed. "They don't understand. They have already decided everything for me."

It: Matteo la guardò negli occhi.
En: Matteo looked her in the eyes.

It: "Giulia, devi parlare con loro. Dì quello che vuoi veramente."
En: "Giulia, you need to talk to them. Tell them what you really want."

It: Giulia annuì.
En: Giulia nodded.

It: Sapeva che Matteo aveva ragione, ma aveva paura.
En: She knew Matteo was right, but she was afraid.

En: Afraid of their judgments, their expectations.

It: Ma la paura non poteva fermarla.
En: But fear couldn't stop her.

En: On Ferragosto evening, the family gathered around the laden table.

It: Le risate e le chiacchiere riempivano l’aria.
En: Laughter and chatter filled the air.

It: Giulia si sentiva un nodo allo stomaco.
En: Giulia felt a knot in her stomach.

It: Doveva parlare.
En: She had to speak.

It: "Posso dire una cosa?" chiese, alzandosi in piedi.
En: "Can I say something?" she asked, standing up.

En: Everyone fell silent, eyes fixed on her.

It: "Io… io voglio fare le mie scelte. Voglio seguire i miei sogni, non quelli che avete deciso per me."
En: "I... I want to make my own choices. I want to follow my dreams, not the ones you have decided for me."

It: Un silenzio teso calò sulla tavola.
En: A tense silence fell over the table.

En: Giulia's parents looked at each other, surprised.

It: Il padre di Giulia parlò per primo.
En: Giulia's father spoke first.

It: "Giulia, noi vogliamo solo il meglio per te."
En: "Giulia, we only want the best for you."

It: "Lo so, papà," rispose Giulia, "ma solo io so cosa è meglio per me. Come Matteo."
En: "I know, Dad," Giulia replied, "but only I know what's best for me. Like Matteo."

It: Il nome di Matteo fece rabbrividire i genitori.
En: The mention of Matteo made her parents shiver.

It: La mamma iniziò a parlare, ma Matteo la interruppe.
En: The mother started to speak, but Matteo interrupted her.

It: "Zio, zia, Giulia ha ragione. Lasciatele la libertà di trovare la sua strada."
En: "Uncle, Aunt, Giulia is right. Let her have the freedom to find her own path."

En: After a long silence, Giulia's mother took her daughter's hand.

It: "Ti amiamo, Giulia. Se questo è quello che vuoi, ti sosterremo."
En: "We love you, Giulia. If this is what you want, we will support you."

It: Giulia sentì un peso sollevarsi dal cuore.
En: Giulia felt a weight lift from her heart.

It: Aveva finalmente detto la sua verità.
En: She had finally spoken her truth.

En: She smiled, feeling free like the sea shimmering under the full moon.

En: That Ferragosto, not only had Giulia found her voice, but she had also gained her parents' trust.

En: She was ready to face the future, with the support of her family.

En: And most importantly, with her newfound independence.
