    Story Transcript:

En: In the tranquil back alleys of Kawaramachi, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Tokyo city, walked a businessman named Takeshi. The weariness reflected in his face and his heavy breathing indicated the toll of his daily battles in the harsh business world. Due to his obsessive nature, he saw everything as a competitor, constantly in competition with others.

En: As the sun set and the streetlights turned on, Takeshi looked at his watch, feeling fear deep within his subconscious. When he raised his gaze, he saw a magnificent gray vending machine. It stood tall as if waiting for him. In that moment, Takeshi, caught off guard and momentarily losing his self-awareness as a businessman, bowed deeply to the vending machine.

En: Haruka, a woman working in the adjacent general store, witnessed the whole affair. Surprised and unable to suppress her laughter, she stepped outside and called out to Takeshi.

En: "That was unexpectedly polite of you, bowing to a vending machine."

En: Takeshi was suddenly jolted back to reality by Haruka's words and blushed. He ran his hand through his hair and sheepishly replied, "Ah, sorry, I was absent-minded…" The scene had a slightly absurd and surreal quality that couldn't be described as an ordinary everyday occurrence.

En: However, as a result of this encounter, Takeshi and Haruka became close, and Takeshi began to rediscover the warmth of human connections beyond just business. Gradually, he found relief from the stress of work. Haruka's presence healed Takeshi's overwhelmed state, symbolized by his bowing to the vending machine, and he started to regain a more human way of living. Similarly, Haruka found small joys in her daily life through her encounter with the strange yet friendly businessman. These newfound experiences made their everyday lives more relaxed and transformed their lives into something richer and more enjoyable.

En: One evening, a small izakaya (Japanese pub) located in Shinjuku, one of the liveliest areas in Tokyo, becomes the stage for tonight's story. Working there is Ryō, a quiet man who wears glasses. On the other hand, the same small izakaya is frequently visited by Hikari, a vibrant woman whose joy and dynamism radiate from her entire expression.

En: On that day as well, Hikari wore a red checkered blouse and casual jeans, while gazing at Ryō working at the izakaya. This was a usual occurrence every evening, but something was different today. Something unbelievable had happened. By serving Ryō, the door to a comedy was opened, and Hikari was inadvertently caught up in it.

En: As Ryō approached Hikari's table, she burst into laughter, enjoying his jokes. When Ryō opened a bottle of wine, a small portion spilled onto Hikari's face. In an instant, Ryō's expression of surprise and Hikari's smile exchanged places, and even the surrounding customers burst into laughter. With one hand holding his glasses and the other hand holding the wine, Ryō stood frozen, while Hikari's face turned red.

En: That night, Hikari and Ryō shared awkward laughter and celebrated each other's clumsy pranks. Ryō quickly offered Hikari a new glass of wine and saw her smile amidst the laughter of everyone present. Undoubtedly, it was the wine that sparked the central conflict in the story, and to reach a satisfactory conclusion, they had no choice but to toast while laughing.

En: In that moment, the izakaya became one, filled with joy alongside the comical moments between the two. The incident of spilling the wine on that particular evening changed something between Ryō and Hikari, becoming the catalyst for deepening their bond. And that night, until the izakaya closed, the two continued to converse wordlessly through their gazes.

En: That was the beginning of Ryō and Hikari's story. Eventually, their relationship was filled with confusion, embarrassment, and joy. They would later reminisce about that night when the wine was spilled, and the story that began from that night.

En: In the heart of the scenery woven by the darkness and light of Tokyo, there is a small clothing store called "Last Button" where Haruki works. The store's display window attracts the attention of everyone passing by. Haruki, lost in his dreams, bows to the mannequins.

En: Against the sparkling night view of Tokyo Tower, Yumi and Hiroshi stand together in front of the store. Hiroshi reaches out with a smile and brushes a strand of hair from her delicate cheek. Reflected in the display window is the image of Haruki bowing to the mannequins.

En: Yumi bursts into laughter. "Wait, is that person... bowing to the mannequins?" She gently nudges Hiroshi's shoulder with her finger. Hiroshi also struggles to hold back his laughter.

En: However, they didn't know the truth behind why Haruki bowed to that mannequin.

En: While adjusting his attire, Haruki accidentally collided with the mannequin. Feeling remorseful, he immediately bowed respectfully to the mannequin. Haruki wasn't just acting without thinking, he simply wanted to apologize for his rudeness.

En: Several years later, the small store, "Last Button," transformed into a co-owned business between the three of them. The legend of Haruki bowing to the mannequins, displayed in the store window, became a distinctive feature like no other.

En: In a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, there was a small Japanese garden and tea room. The early summer sun filtered through the green leaves, casting beautiful shadows on the ground. It was a serene moment, the world of tea ceremony.

En: However, the tranquility in one corner of the garden was disrupted by the appearance of Hiroshi.

En: Hiroshi was much larger than anyone could imagine. His six sandals were tight, and his kimono fit snugly around his body. On top of that, he wore a hood that looked more suited for a sumo wrestler. And yet, he stepped foot into this sacred tea room.

En: May froze for a moment at the entrance of the tea room. She looked at Hiroshi, who resembled a sumo wrestler, with sweat on her forehead, struggling with worry about the progress of the tea ceremony and suppressing her laughter.
En: As the night grew late, the city was enveloped in silence. Only a single beam of light shone from a certain izakaya. The izakaya's name was "Sakura," meaning cherry blossom. Sakura, detached from the noise of the world, welcomed people with pleasant music, delicious food, and a unique atmosphere.

En: One evening, within Sakura, the melodies of karaoke filled the air. Smiles and energy overflowed from those singing, illuminating the entire izakaya with brightness. However, amidst them was one restless man. He was fixated on the karaoke remote control with automatic translation function.

En: He was a tourist from a foreign country. His name was John, and he had come to Japan to experience karaoke. However, he was troubled as he couldn't understand the Japanese lyrics. The Japanese people accompanying him found it difficult to provide a detailed explanation of the lyrics' meaning, leaving him hesitant to sing.

En: John looked at the remote control in front of him again and made his choice. He chose Green Day's "Basket Case." With a shout from him, he pressed the start button. In that instant, the entire izakaya swayed to its sound.

En: As John began to sing, cheers erupted within the izakaya. His powerful voice grabbed hold of everyone's hearts. The sound of the guitar and his voice became one, and before he knew it, John was immersed in the song. Despite the imperfect translation from the karaoke, the people in the izakaya were enchanted by his passionate performance.

En: When the song ended, applause and cheers were bestowed upon John by everyone around him, and he wore a big smile. From that day on, he became a regular at izakaya Sakura, and everyone acknowledged his singing ability, literally calling him the "singing traveler."

En: What John, who chose self-expression without fearing misunderstandings, taught everyone was the beauty of connecting hearts beyond language barriers. It was truly a wonderful moment that demonstrated the universal power of music and the possibility of empathy. And that was the story of Sakura's karaoke night.
