Story Transcript:

It: Luca sognava in grande.

En: He was eleven years old and wanted to be a master thief.

En: But deep down, he was just a slightly mischievous kid.

It: Insieme a lui, all'orfanotrofio, c'erano Giulia, la sua migliore amica, e Antonio, sempre un po' pauroso ma fedele come un cagnolino.
En: Along with him, at the orphanage, were Giulia, his best friend, and Antonio, always a bit fearful but faithful as a little dog.

En: Spring had arrived, and with it, the Festa dei Lavoratori, May 1st, was approaching.

En: Luca had a special plan: to steal cookies from the kitchen for a secret party.

It: L'orfanotrofio era un vecchio edificio pieno di fascino.
En: The orphanage was an old building full of charm.

En: The floors creaked underfoot and the bookshelves were loaded with old dusty books.

En: The kitchen was the realm of Chef Mario, always a bit gruff, who watched over every corner with the eye of a hawk.

En: The cookies were guarded in a metal tin, like a precious treasure.

En: Luca, with a sly smile, said to Giulia, "We need a plan.

It: Mi aiuti?"
En: Will you help me?"

En: Giulia, always ready to lend a hand, suggested creating a diversion.

It: "Antonio farà il fischietto fuori, come se ci fossero i fuochi d'artificio," spiegò Giulia.
En: "Antonio will whistle outside, as if there were fireworks," explained Giulia.

It: Luca amava l'idea.
En: Luca loved the idea.

En: Then, he crafted an improvised key with Giulia's hairpin.

It: La sera del 30 aprile, il piano prese vita.
En: The evening of April 30th, the plan came to life.

It: Antonio era già vicino alla finestra, pronto a urlare al momento giusto.
En: Antonio was already near the window, ready to shout at the right moment.

En: Giulia and Luca approached the kitchen, holding their breath.

En: Chef Mario was at his station, but luck was on their side.

En: With a swift motion, Luca turned the key in the lock.

En: The kids were a step away from the cookies when the lid of the tin rattled loudly.

En: Luca's heart stopped for a moment.

It: Ma proprio allora, Antonio iniziò a imitare i suoni dei fuochi d'artificio.
En: But just then, Antonio began imitating the sounds of fireworks.

It: Mario, incuriosito, si affacciò alla finestra.
En: Mario, intrigued, leaned out the window.

It: Giulia e Luca presero i biscotti e corsero verso la sala comune.
En: Giulia and Luca grabbed the cookies and ran toward the common room.

It: Tutti i bambini li attendevano con occhi brillanti.
En: All the children awaited them with bright eyes.

En: The cookies were distributed, laughter filled the room, and the kids celebrated May 1st with a sweet treat.

It: Quella notte, Luca capì che l'unione fa la forza.
En: That night, Luca understood that unity is strength.

En: Sometimes, bending the rules for a good reason could bring people together like nothing else.

En: Their secret was a small victory, but for him, it was the whole world.

En: The scent of cookies and laughter made that spring unforgettable.
