Let’s face it. We love diets.
We love simple instructions that promise magical results.
Eat this.
Don’t eat that.
And you’ll arrive at your perfect weight.
Not. True.
Diets are an external solution to an internal problem.
Please join me as I coach you today on why we all love diets, and love to search for them and read all about them, but know, inside, that they aren’t the answer to your extra weight.
Let’s talk about finding the right solution to the problem of your extra weight. And, to do that, let’s learn how you created that problem in the first place. See you in the podcast.

Becoming a natural eater means learning to respond to your body – instead of your mind and all the other triggers that used to be reasons to eat. And that is good; that’s your goal. To be a natural eater who eats when hungry and stops when lightly full.
But sometimes, even when you learn to read your body and know when it’s asking for food (as opposed to your mind asking for food) you may still WANT to eat food for all kinds of other reasons.
And then you may feel disappointed or sad that you’re no longer doing what you used to do. Eating when you used to eat.
You may find yourself rebelling against doing this. And feeling bad.
So, let’s talk about WHY: Why does this new way of eating make you feel sad?

Do you know the difference between binge eating and general overeating? Today Kathryn Hansen and I are going to break down the differences between these two eating struggles. Because your first step in solving your challenge is knowing the truth about what you are doing. And then finding the right solution. Let’s do this!
Welcome to your coaching session today, and it’s a special one.
Today I have a real treat for you, a conversation with an expert who I’m pretty sure you know. She is Kathryn Hansen, author of the breakthrough book: Brain Over Binge.
Kathryn Hansen recovered from bulimia in 2005; and since then, she has been dedicated to educating and empowering women and men who struggle with all forms of binge eating. She is the author of two books: Brain over Binge (published in 2011, and a new updated second edition, just released this year, in 2022) and the Brain over Binge Recovery Guide (2016). Additionally, Kathryn is the host of the Brain over Binge Podcast and a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. She has made major contributions to the field of binge eating and its treatment and has helped thousands overcome this disorder.
I am honored to call her my friend and colleague and have her here for you today.
We are going to help you define binge eating and garden-variety overeating. So you understand which one you struggle with. And so you can focus on the right solution for you.
We also talk about one of the most common areas of confusion around both of these eating habits. And that is when you think that you truly want to binge or overeat. It feels like it makes sense in the moment, and that makes it near impossible to stop. Let’s solve this once and for all.

Have you updated your weight loss goals in the past few years? Or do you still aim for the body you had 20 years ago? Today we’re going to talk about why your goals need to change with you as you grow and as you age. And doing this intentionally can feel wonderful.
In February we talked about subjects that related to how you eat. And In March we mostly talked about how we think and how it affects all that we do and how we eat.
And this month, in April we are talking about caring for ourselves…the love part of my Eat, Think, Love Program to stop overeating. Today we are working on weight loss goals as you change, as you age. Because hating yourself and your body as you age is so self-defeating.
This is an important subject. No matter what your age is right now.
If this feels true to you, I want you to ask yourself if you’re looking at yourself through the eyes of the HS or college version of you?
And right now, are you maybe 10 or 20 or 30 years beyond that time of your life?
Things change with time, and your goals change too, even your goals for how you want to eat. And what you think your weight should be.
So, how are your goals defined right now?
I want you to acknowledge your current driver…the thing that motivates you to do this personal work on yourself.
And ask yourself, is your ‘why’ really current?
Join me as we look at weight loss as we age: how to think about it so it’s achievable and feels good.

You say you will eat or not eat something. You feel determined. But before you know it, you’re eating it! What just happened? And why did it happen? That’s what I’m going to talk about with you today.
Alright…. imagine this: You want something, you want to be able to do something, like wait until you are hungry to eat, or stop eating when your body says: enough! and you try to do it.
But your new goal smacks into what you think
And remember, beliefs are just thoughts that you’ve practiced thinking repeatedly, so they are just very firmly entrenched in your mind, and they come up often.
How do you even know what you believe?
That sneaky little voice in your head that tells you you’ll probably fail, or says things like: who are you kidding, …. whenever you make a decision, once again, to stick to your eating plan. That inner voice that challenges you and shakes your confidence. Which was probably shaky to begin with, right?
It’s kind of amazing but the truth is that that little voice holds all the power over you.
But it is all about your thoughts because they lead you to all the things you do, and all the things you say you’ll do and then end up blowing off.
Let me give you some new thoughts that you can borrow from me that will help your eating match your thoughts…. you will learn to do what you say you want to do.

You know in these coaching sessions we talk a lot about stopping your overeating and becoming a natural eater. That is the way to weight loss. But what if you have trouble with imagining being a natural eater because you can’t visualize what that would even feel like?
That’s exactly what I’m going to help you with today.
I talk a lot about your goals, not just for a number on the scale but your three big goals so that you can stop overeating. Of course, you want to do that because ending overeating is what leads to weight loss.
To me, these are the ultimate goals if you are struggling with your overeating and your weight. But what if you can’t even imagine being a natural eater? There are two parts to this dilemma…you can’t imagine that it’s possible for you because you’ve never really been a natural eater, and you don’t even really know what it would be like, look like, or feel like to live this way. So, you don’t have a sense of what you are aiming for.
Do you clearly know what it would look like to be a natural eater? Here are some ideas:
I think you get the idea! Listen in and learn how to start imagining this for yourself. You can do this!

Do you ever step on the scale and hate the number you see?
These scenarios are common if you are still struggling with overeating.
‘I just can’t figure this out!’ And you feel confused and frustrated.
Instead of wasting time on blame and confusion and frustration, I want you to get in the habit of pausing and assessing where you are.
What needs to be tweaked?
No drama, no blame. But I do want you to take responsibility for where you are. Because responsibility means you are in charge of your results. So, you can be in charge of making changes and getting a different result.
No blame. Just responsibility.
Ask yourself: what am I doing, thinking, feeling, eating, to create my current results?
You don’t need to change everything.
Figure it out, my friend.

Do you ever set goals and then forget them? Life is so full and busy that it’s hard to stay focused even if it’s something you really want.
Today we are going to dive deep into keeping your important goals on the front burner of your mind. So, forgetting about them is just not an option.
Here’s the problem we’re going to work on and solve together today:
Think about things you’ve done before that were multifaceted projects, like planning a wedding, raising a child, building a house, or starting a business. You wouldn’t sit back and wait for things to happen.
Losing weight and stopping your overeating is just like any other big project.
We can’t lose weight until we stop overeating, right?
We are going to work on helping it all happen right here.
But one problem many of my FG members run into is this:
If this is you, you’ve come to the right place.

Do you think once you start eating that you cannot stop, until the food is gone? Or maybe until you are ready to explode? Today we are going to talk about why you might want to be able to interrupt your eating and how to do it.
Welcome to your coaching session for today.
You want to periodically stop for several reasons:
Have you ever been in a movie theater, eating popcorn? The movie ends, you look down at the empty container with surprise. Where did the popcorn go? Who ate that?
You were so distracted and on autopilot that you missed the pleasure of the popcorn.
You might rebel against doing this.
But I want you to pause and assess where you are.
Join me today and practice getting back in charge of your eating by learning how to pause and interrupt yourself to see where you are.
