In today's episode of WorkParty I’m talking with Candace Nelson, Los Angeles-based food entrepreneur, accomplished pastry chef known for co-founding Sprinkles, and co-owner of her newest venture Pizzana, a Michelin Bib Gourmand Neo-Neapolitan pizzeria with three locations sprinkled throughout LA.
When Candance isn’t working her magic in the kitchen, she's also an amazing author of the New York Times Best Seller “The Sprinkles Baking Book,” an executive producer of and judge on Netflix’s “Sugar Rush,” and host of her own podcast “Live to Eat.” She has a new book that is coming out in November called Sweet Success, which is a book for entrepreneurs inspired by her journey that showcases how to turn your passion into a business.
Fueled by her passion for supporting other entrepreneurs, Candance also co-founded CN2 Ventures which invests in early-stage and growth-stage startups in the retail, food, direct-to-consumer, and branded consumer product sectors, harnessing her knack for elevating simple concepts into breakthrough brands.
Prior to founding Sprinkles, Candance pursued a career in investment banking but shifted gears to follow her passion and attend pastry school. Her love for approachable, nostalgic food drives her business endeavors, and her admiration of contemporary art influences her branding philosophy.
Today, we’re talking about embracing your entrepreneurial spirit, from connecting with your inner passions to turning those hobbies into a lucrative business, all so you can have your cake and eat it too.

Following the passing of her father Donald, and in search of a creative outlet to cope with grief, Alyssa started DONNI in 2009. As a brand rooted in comfort and known initially for its signature oversized scarves, DONNI has since grown to include an expansive, yet curated collection of ready-to-wear clothing, accessories, and jewelry.
Early in her career, however, Alyssa spent six years as a Visual/Image Consultant at Chanel, refining her ability to spot and develop trends in the market, and ultimately enabling her to create demand for her highly sought-after designs. Now, at the helm of DONNI, she continues to cultivate a loyal community that frequently sells out collection drops within hours of a release (AMAZING), and further cement the brand as a notable name in fashion.
She is passionate about giving back and supporting her LA community, and since the brand’s inception, has donated proceeds from each product drop to various organizations, raising thousands of dollars for charitable initiatives. She also sits on the board of directors for the HIT Living Foundation and was honored to be named Forbes 30 under 30 in the Art & Style category in 2019.
Despite going through a difficult loss in her early years, she found a silver lining and successfully built a thriving business. I’m thrilled to chat with Alyssa all about how she overcame real-life struggles, turned a simple but beautiful concept into a lounge and leisure sensation, and built a dedicated team in the process.

After years of living with an autoimmune condition that didn’t allow her to take most antibiotics and over-the-counter medicines, Carly found herself frustrated by the chronic colds and symptoms she seemed to be unable to treat. But in 2012 everything changed. While she was studying abroad in Italy, she discovered propolis, an all natural ingredient made by bees with hundreds of immune-boosting elements. She quickly recognized the power of this natural ingredient and set out to develop her own formula with the help and guidance of leading bee research institutions.
In 2017 Carly traded in her corporate career at Goldman Sachs to dedicate her life to full-time beekeeping and founded Beekeeper’s Naturals in an effort to bring propolis to the masses in sustainable and accessible ways. She has since been committed to working exclusively with sustainable, small-scale apiaries, and prioritizing pesticide-free health and wellness products
Above all else, Carly works tirelessly to raise awareness and create a better environment for our World’s most important pollinators–the bees. She has been featured in Allure and Vogue magazines along with numerous podcast appearances to share the importance of bees in our daily lives. Recognized as a game-changing entrepreneur in the 2019 Forbes 30 Under 30 list, she continues to strive to innovate everyday health issues and transform proactive wellness.
On this episode of WorkParty, I talk with Carly about the power of holistic medicine, what inspired her to disrupt the CPG space, why she believes in radical transparency and leading with vulnerability, and how she is revolutionizing the wellness industry one natural remedy at a time

Today’s guest is multi-hyphenate Cass Dimicco–a successful entrepreneur, content creator, and creative director. Lauded by the media as “a true tastemaker, one of the fashion world’s ultimate ‘it girls and style icons,” Cass is not only a taste-maker and trend-setter for her highly engaged audience, but she’s also the founder, designer, and creative director for her own successful jewelry line, Aureum Collective.
Before founding Aureum, Cass had leveraged her eye for style and ability to forecast fashion trends into full-time digital content creation in 2017, leaving her previous role as a corporate buyer and product designer in fashion. She went on to forge partnerships with Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Prada, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tom Ford, Stuart Weitzman, and has attended events with Fendi, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, and more.
Aureum Collective was later founded in September 2019 when Cass and her husband recognized a gap in the market for a jewelry brand that fulfilled a luxury aesthetic without the luxury price point. The brand now specializes in elevated accessories with the intention that they can be worn by any person, at any age, and any body type at any time. Beloved by top celebrity clientele, Aureum has proven to be a rapid success in such a short period of time and has shown no signs of stopping.
In this episode of WorkParty, I have the pleasure of sitting down with Cass to learn more about her journey from influencer to entrepreneur, her best advice for launching and scaling a social-first brand, her approach to community building, and how she maintains balance while working towards her goals.

Hi everyone! It’s the FINAL episode of WorkParty Money Moves: Founder’s Framework! Over the past four weeks I’ve been interviewing some incredible female founders on how they would break down a $10,000 small business loan to start a business.
Today is a special episode, because it is the last installment in this five part series, and we’ve decided to flip the script to close it out. While we’ve enjoyed learning about the many ways each of these founders would strategically spend their startup money, we wanted to take the last episode in the series to shine a spotlight on the scenario from the Bank’s point of view. And that’s why joining me today is Rebekah Rice, an expert on Small Business loans and an advocate for small business owners everywhere.
If you’re not familiar with her work, Rebekah Rice is a Small Business Regional Executive at Bank of America. She leads a team of 200 Small Business leaders and teammates to help the small business community thrive. More specifically, she helps the small business team to put capital into our communities, drive revenue growth, acquire client relationships, and provides a world class client experience.
She’s been serving small businesses for almost 20 years, and even started a business of her own during the pandemic. This personal experience has given her an even greater lens into the bank’s products and services and has made her a better advocate for the small business owners she serves everyday.
The question I’m posing to Rebekah is: “How would you advise a small consumer-packaged goods business to use the $10K loan to successfully grow their business?”
As someone with experience advising small businesses and embarking on her own entrepreneurial journey, Rebekah has a unique perspective on the founder’s framework situation, and in this episode she's sharing the inside scoop!
Well, Rebekah—it is such a pleasure to have you on the WorkParty podcast today! I’m really excited to dive in and hear how you would spend this $10,000 in funding.

Like many origin stories, Aasiyah Abdulsalam’s idea came to her as a lightbulb moment. On vacation in Las Vegas, Aasiyah wondered why there wasn’t a product that could keep her wig in place in the warm weather. Then it hit her—she was 100% capable of filling the gap herself.
Aasiyah is the founder of The Renatural, a company simplifying and demystifying wigs—Products that have previously been inaccessible, fragmented, and intimidating Her innovative product, The Wig Fix is a hypoallergenic, breathable, and lightweight silicone headband that secures your wig while protecting your scalp and promoting natural hair growth underneath.
It also happens to be the first wig related patent obtained in over 55 years. Aasiyah is an industry disruptor, taking the industry miles ahead of where it has been for ages. I can’t wait to learn how she did it.

Hey everyone, thanks for tuning into this special episode of WorkParty Money Moves: Founder’s Framework. In this series, successful founders will share their perspective on a startup funding scenario: They’ve just received a $10,000 small business loan to start a business, let’s see how they build a framework to spend it!
For our fourth installment in the series, I have Julissa Prado here, founder & CEO of Rizos Curls, a clean hair care line aimed at embracing and celebrating the beauty of curls, coils, and waves everywhere! After years of making her own curly cocktail and helping her community embrace their curls, Julissa decided to use her life savings to launch her own hair care line Rizos Curls. The result has been a line of products made with high-quality ingredients that works across all different hair types.
As a leading force in the beauty industry, Julissa is widely recognized with award wins as Cosmopolitan’s 2021 New C-Suite Winner, and named Entrepreneur of the Year in 2020 by Beauty Independent. She is also an active national speaker with roles at Harvard University, The Girl Boss Rally, Create & Cultivate, TED, and many more!
I’m so excited to have Julissa here to share more on her journey and how she’d break down the $10,000 as a product-based business!
