Story Transcript:

He: בין דוכני הפירות בבוקר שטוף שמש בשוק מחנה יהודה בירושלים, יש עמדה מיוחדת.
En: Among the fruit stalls on a sunny morning at the Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem, there is a special stand.

He: המוכר שם, מיכאל, ידוע כחביב ואוהב לצחוק.
En: The seller there, Michael, is known for being friendly and loving to laugh.

He: באותו בוקר, יעל, אבי ונועם צעדו בין הדוכנים וחיפשו פירות טריים.
En: That morning, Yael, Avi, and Noam walked among the stalls looking for fresh fruit.

He: אבי רצה לקנות בננות.
En: Avi wanted to buy bananas.

He: הוא תלש לעצמו בננה מהדוכן וניגש למיכאל.
En: He picked a banana from the stand and approached Michael.

He: "כמה זה?
En: "How much is this?"

He: " שאל אבי בעברית פשוטה.
En: Avi asked in simple Hebrew.

He: "עשר שקלים", ענה מיכאל וחיוך על פניו.
En: "Ten shekels," Michael replied with a smile on his face.

He: אבל אבי שמע יותר מידי סיפורים על התמקחות והחליט לנסות את כוחו.
En: But Avi had heard too many stories about bargaining and decided to try his luck.

He: "תשמע, אתן לך חמישה שקלים על הבננות.
En: "Listen, I'll give you five shekels for the bananas.

He: אחי אמר לי שפה זה מקבל!
En: My brother told me that here it’s accepted!"

He: " אמר אבי במבטא ברור של טיול ראשון בארץ.
En: Avi said with a clear accent of a first-time visitor to the country.

He: מיכאל הביט בו במבט מופתע ומלא בצחוק.
En: Michael looked at him with a surprised and amused expression.

He: "מה זאת אומרת 'פה זה מקבל'?
En: "What do you mean 'here it’s accepted'?"

He: " שאל.
En: he asked.

He: יעל ונועם שעמדו לידו גיחכו.
En: Yael and Noam, standing by his side, giggled.

He: "אבי, לא כך אומרים," לחשה יעל בחיוך רחב, "אומרים 'זה בסדר כאן'".
En: "Avi, that's not how you say it," Yael whispered with a wide smile, "you say 'it’s okay here'."

He: מיכאל הבין את הטעות וחייך עוד יותר.
En: Michael understood the mistake and smiled even more.

He: "תשמע, אבי, אם אתה נותן לי חמישה שקלים, אני נותן לך חצי בננה," אמר וצחק.
En: "Listen, Avi, if you give me five shekels, I'll give you half a banana," he said, laughing.

He: גם אבי התחיל לצחוק.
En: Avi started laughing too.

He: הוא הבין שהשתמש במילים לא נכונות ובסופו של דבר הם הצליחו לסגור על שמונה שקלים.
En: He realized he had used the wrong words and in the end, they managed to settle on eight shekels.

He: כולם נהנו מצחוק ושיחה קלילה.
En: They all enjoyed a good laugh and a light conversation.

He: לאחר שקיבל את הבננות שלו, פנו יעל, אבי ונועם להמשיך בטיולם בשוק.
En: After receiving his bananas, Yael, Avi, and Noam continued their walk through the market.

He: השמש המשיכה לזרוח, והריחות המיוחדים של מחנה יהודה מילאו את האוויר.
En: The sun kept shining, and the unique smells of Mahane Yehuda filled the air.

He: מאותו יום, למד אבי שלהתמקח צריך לדעת גם את הסלנג המקומי.
En: From that day, Avi learned that in order to bargain, you also have to know the local slang.

He: כך נגמר היום בשוק עם חיוך רחב ותחושה של חוויה בלתי נשכחת.
