Story Transcript:

He: הכותנה הכבירה מהלכת בעלייתותיו של רחוב אלנבי, התקיימו לדוד, גבר מרוסן ובחמישים מהחיים.
En: The large sack was walking up the steps of Allenby Street, a street known to David, a gruff man in his fifties.

He: הבריזה המליחה של הים הכתימה את האוויר, והצלצולים הבלתי פוסקים של החנויות הערבו בראשו את מנגינת היומיום של תל אביב.
En: The salty breeze of the sea tinted the air, and the constant chatter of the shops filled his head with the daily melody of Tel Aviv.

He: הוא נסע מעשרת הק"מ שלו הביתה בחיפה, למטרה אחת בלבד - המחיר הטוב ביותר לתוצרת הטרייה שלו.
En: He traveled from his ten kilometers away home in Haifa, for one purpose only - to get the best price for his fresh produce.

He: כיסוי נייר חום, מלא בתוצרת, מושקל על כתפו.
En: A brown paper covering, filled with produce, weighed on his shoulder.

He: הוא נכנס לשוק הכרמל, המזעזע בו צלילי התיקונים, הקריצות של הרכש והשיחות החריפות בין הרוכלים והלקוחות.
En: He entered the Carmel Market, filled with the sounds of repairs, the bargaining of purchases, and the sharp conversations between the merchants and customers.

He: "איזה בטטה?
En: "What potatoes?

He: איזה תפוחים?
En: What apples?"

He: " קראו לו הרוכלים ממדרגותיו.
En: called out the merchants from their steps.

He: "אל תקשיב להם דוד!
En: "Don't listen to them, David!"

He: " הכריז אורי, חברו הישן, "אתה יודע שאני אנהג יושר עםך.
En: announced Uri, his old friend, "You know I'll treat you fairly."

He: "בסוף, מחיר נמוך יותר הוצע לדוד, מטובח מזדמן, וקבל השוק את תוצרתו.
En: In the end, a lower price was offered to David, a spontaneous bargain, and the market accepted his produce.

He: דוד, יאושי, יצא מהשוק.
En: David, disappointed, left the market.

He: אך מרכז הכפייה, על מנת למצוא את רכבו, שלא היה שם.
En: But in the hustle, trying to find his car, which was not there.

He: בפניקה, הוא איבד את עצמו בין הרחובות הצרים של נווה צדק.
En: In panic, he lost himself in the narrow streets of Neve Tzedek.

He: לקח לו שעות, שבהן העיר התמלאה עם אורות חשיכה וצללים ארוכים, למצוא את המכונית שלו, אולם היא הופיעה מאחורי התחנת אוטובוס.
En: It took him hours, during which the city filled with the lights of the night and long shadows, to find his car, but it appeared behind the bus station.

He: בתוך המכונית הוא נכנס, מנסה להתמלא בנשימות, ותחל לדרך החזרה לחיפה.
En: He got into the car, trying to catch his breath, and began the journey back to Haifa.

He: לבסוף, בבית הו, דוד הבין שהיום הזה אינו אכזבה, אלא לקח.
En: Finally, back at home, David realized that this day was not a disappointment, but a lesson.

He: הוא לא קיבל את המחיר שלו, אך הבין שהמחיר האמיתי הוא הכבוד.
En: He didn't get his price, but he understood that the true price was honor.

He: שוב, הוא החליט לנסוע לתל אביב.
En: Once again, he decided to drive to Tel Aviv.

He: אך הפעם, הוא לא בא למכור, אלא לקנות - לקנות כבוד עצמי מלא.
