One of the most powerful parts of the HEAL documentary was following the journey of Eva Lee, a working mother of two with a mystery illness that no western doctors could figure out. After seeing every kind of specialist under the sun and receiving no answers or diagnosis, she had to resort to taking steroids daily to keep her painful rash outbreaks at bay. It was a very typical case of treating the symptom but not getting to the root cause, and then having to deal with the side effects that long term steroid use brings on top of it all. During the filming of HEAL I was determined to introduce her to different types of more natural healing modalities in hopes that she would find the answers and healing she was looking for. After the release of the film, we received an enormous influx of loving notes with more suggestions and ideas about possible diagnoses and treatments from people all over the world. Today, we catch up with Eva Lee to find out if she ever discovered the root cause, a diagnosis, or ultimate healing over the last three years. This conversation is an important one demonstrating how there is no one-size-fits-all model for healing and how addressing things like stressful lifestyles, past trauma, and other potential causes of illness may not be as easy as it sounds. Eva’s positive spirit in the face of this brutal mystery illness along with her willingness to be vulnerable to help others continues to inspire me.
