He: בקורת הצהרים, ביום שבו עטו שיעריו השחורים מעט מכתף, נהג זר נכנס לירושלים.
En: In the afternoon, on a day when his black hair slightly brushed his shoulder, a foreign driver entered Jerusalem.

He: בראשו קסם, בלבבו ביטחון ובידו מפה.
En: A hat adorned his head, confidence filled his heart, and a map was in his hand.

He: הדרך לעיר העתיקה הפך מסלול מוכר למבוך נושא אינספור פנים.
En: The path to the old city transformed from a familiar route into a maze of countless faces.

He: עצר בצידה של הדרום התיכון בקופה של גזזרי מספריים, והציץ אל פנים החנות, כאילו יודע שאברהם, הספר, ימצא לו את התשובה.
En: He stopped on the side of the south-central road next to a shop selling spices, and gazed inside the store, as if he knew that Abraham, the book merchant, would find the answer for him.

He: אברהם החמיץ תפריט קפה מתוך המנעול ביד ימין, ובינתיים הביט ברוכל המתפשט בחנותו ממרחק, שכבר הפך לתמידי.
En: Abraham fumbled with the coffee menu from the lock in his right hand, meanwhile glancing at the vendor spreading his goods in the shop from a distance, which had become a routine.

He: "צפון", נשמע מפיו והנפה לכיוון הפלך הברזלי.
En: "North," came from his mouth as he gestured towards the iron balcony.

He: הנהג התפלא, אך המסילדל את הדרך והמשיך.
En: The driver was surprised, but he steered the way and continued.

He: הדרך הובילו אל שרה, בעלת הבית הספרדי העתיק שבמרכז העיר.
En: The road led him to Sarah, the owner of the ancient Sephardic house in the city center.

He: היא היתה אשה חמה מאד והשרתה לו פלאפל מרגע שהיא שמעה את המילים שהמסילדלים מפה.
En: She was a very warm woman and served him falafel from the moment she heard the words from the map.

He: "האם להגיד לך בסוף?
En: "Should I tell you in the end?

He: הרמונה זו הדרך המהירה ביותר", אמרה שרה בטעם פלאפל.
En: This path is the fastest", Sarah said with a taste of falafel.

He: הליכה באותה דרך חשה לו כמו שגיאת איום, אך את שרה אי אפשר להתעלם מה.
En: Walking on the same path felt like a looming mistake to him, but Sarah's advice could not be ignored.

He: אך לפני שמיצה האבן צעדו האחרון, עצר אצל יעל בחנות התכשיטים.
En: Just before he stepped the last stone, he stopped at Yael's jewelry store.

He: היא הסתכלה עליו באי נוחות, עברה לו על הצוואר תכשיט כסף רדוד, ואמרה בקול הומה: "השער שבמערב, זהו המגיע לליבה של העיר".
En: She looked at him uncomfortably, hung a worn silver necklace around his neck and said with a hum, "The western gate leads to the heart of the city."
