Story Transcript:

He: אני שאת המבט שלו לרחובות ירושלים, המלאים בחיים ואווירת חג, חנה אברהם במסעדת הפלאפל העמוסה.
En: As he scanned the bustling streets of Jerusalem, filled with life and holiday spirit, Hanan Abraham stood in the crowded falafel restaurant.

He: כשהגיע תורו להזמין, הנהגה נצמדה לשפתיו.
En: When his turn came to order, the cashier clung to his lips.

He: "פלאפל," הוא אמר, "עם כל התוספות.
En: "Falafel," he said, "with all the extras."

He: "בשעתו, בלי לשאול, המוכר התכריתי החמיא לו על הטעם הטוב, הוסיף לו מנת 'רוטב חריף במיוחד'.
En: Without asking, the gruff vendor praised him for the good taste, added a generous portion of 'especially spicy sauce'.

He: אברהם שם לב שגב היד זזה שלושה פעמים מעל השקית של הרוטב החריף, אבל לא נגע לו.
En: Abraham noticed that the back of the hand moved three times above the sachet of the spicy sauce, but he did not mind.

He: היה לו רעב.
En: He was hungry.

He: אחרי שעבר כמה דקות, אברהם הכניס 'פלאפל סיבוב ראשון' לפה.
En: After a few minutes, Abraham put the 'first bite of falafel' into his mouth.

He: משך היה שלשה שניות.
En: It lasted three seconds.

He: החיכוך של הפלאפל הטעים נשבר לכוחו של הרוטב החריף.
En: The enjoyment of the tasty falafel was shattered by the power of the spicy sauce.

He: כאמריקאי שגר בירושלים חודשיים, לא הורגל לטעמים כאלה.
En: As an American living in Jerusalem for two months, he was not accustomed to such tastes.

He: הינווכאי!
En: He was taken aback!

He: עיניו התמלאו בדמעות, ההכרה שהתקיימה בו יחד עם הדגש שהתרחש בפה.
En: His eyes filled with tears, the realization that struck him along with the emphasis that happened in his mouth.

He: החיילים בפינה וקבוצת התיירים מפרנקפורט התקשרו מסביב לו, מחכים לראות איזה צעד הוא ישנה.
En: The soldiers in the corner and the group of tourists from Frankfurt surrounded him, waiting to see what he would do next.

He: אבל אברהם נשאר זקוף, לא מרחם על עצמו, ממשיך לאכול, כי הוא יודע שלאכול פלאפל חריף - זה חלק מהחוויה של ירושלים!
En: But Abraham remained upright, not feeling sorry for himself, continuing to eat, because he knew that eating spicy falafel - it's part of the Jerusalem experience!

He: אפילו הגלידריה ממול יכולה לחכות.
En: Even the ice cream parlor across the street could wait.

He: נהנה מכל חוסר הנוחות, בלי ספק היה קשה, אבל חוויה זו שגרמה לו להרגיש חלק מהאתר של המקום, זה מה שבאמת משנה.
En: Enduring all the discomfort, it was certainly difficult, but the experience that made him feel part of the place is what truly mattered.

He: בתוך שעה שהוא נישפך מהמקום, הוא הפך למספר את הסיפור לכל מי שמכיר, כולל גרמנים מופתעים, המחייך בנימוס אחרי שאברהם עבר אל הכסא, כולם חולפים בחוויות של החיים בארץ קדושה.
